I found this site while looking for information on reopairing a Gateway MA7 laptop. There is a ton of great info here. I am actually a PC & Laptop Technician and have done some board level work before. Not as much as a lot of the people here. That is why I registered here. I love learning new things and I learned how to bypas a power jack today. And did it. I really ebjoy tearing things apart and fixing almost anything. And I have always wanted to learn more about electronics.

Re: Gateway MA7 laptop won't charge or run off of A/C

I have an MA7 here and it will not start up at all now. It would for a while before the battery went. I tried soldering a jumper from the center pin on the power jack to the little diode on the board. It's getting 19 volts at the diode but it still will not charge the battery. The battery led will flash purple and no charge. Is there something I am missing? We are going to have to buy a new laptop anyway because he has to have one and I cannot get this one working.
