  • Re: VAIO Bad Backlight?

It's an LCD screen. Do you know how I might highlight which part is causing the problem?

  • VAIO Bad Backlight?

Hiya, hope you everyone had a nice Christmas. I have VGN-NS10L with a dodgy screen that I'm trying to repair and it has quite a telling fault. The screen will work fine for minute or so before the image shakes for a second or so then fades to seemingly black. If I shine a torch on the screen I can see a very dark version of what should be bright i.e. the windows desktop. This is definitely a hardware fault as this will occur both inside and out of windows such as at the BIOS screen. Can anyone suggest the most likely fault or the best tests to perform to ensure the nature of the fault?

Well I don't know which boards I was talking about when I said the fans come on, but it wasn't these ones. The POST tester isn't of much use unfortunately in this case but still, a handy tool that will see much use. One board just won't power on at all, won't kick the PSU up, I'll probably do that manually tomorrow and see what happens, and test all the rails on each board. The other, powers on, gives FF to the post tester immediately and hangs on that note, no CPU fan. The telling thing - there's a power oscialltion for the first few seconds, about second in...

  • Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

Hello, hola, aloha, bonjourno, everybody. How are we all? I actually already posted somewhere else, how rude of me. Well I'm new so maybe I'll be forgiven. 'Name's Chris, from UK, I do a bit of carpentry, a lot of messing with computers and just general tinkering with what's around. After some decades I still have not grown out of the habit of taking things apart, and half putting them back together again. Often these things are better off like that (I like to think). Linux, AVR, and electronics are the latest trends for me....

  • P5G41T No Post

I have here 2 Asus P5G41T--M LX (ones an LX3 actually, which doesn't seem any different from the other) which won't post. The fans come on, which is nice, but nothing else is happening. I wondered if anyone knows of common issues with this board.

All the caps look fine and I'm going to try and get around to testing caps and what not and if I feel brave, the MOSFETS, over the next week. I'm pretty new to this kind of thing so any pointers are appreciated. I've built over 50 systems in the past so I'm aware of the basics from a building point of view, and learning more about circuits,...
