  • Re: Solder beading, can't make good joint

I know the iron is tinned so it must not be hot enough. What temp or power should I be looking for in an iron? I bought a cheap unadjustable Radio Shack 15 watt iron so I'll probably be buying a new one.
Also, in my first attempt my computer did post, but the display was kind of scrambled and generally not how it should have been. It started to load windows, but shut off then. This happened a couple more times and now it won't post at all.

  • Solder beading, can't make good joint

Just like the title says. Try as I might I can't get a good joint on the cap terminals and the solder tends to bead right at the surface of the solder pads without really connecting. I'm using regular 60/40 rosin core .062" dia solder and my tip is about half that size. I'm positive the holes are fully clear and cleaned. Tips anyone? I'm thinking I should just buy a new mb.
