I found this one not sure if it would be your ver though.
Also if you put the word quanta in front of ma? gateway, it pulls up more direct links to some schematics.
As I a found trying to fix my MA2A, the schematic posted in another thread [URL="https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=21986"]HERE[/URL] quanta ma2a rev c gateway had fewer silkscreen marks that matched than the MA2 rev 2A . even though mine says MA2A REVC
While I fixed mine for about 6months after just clearing...

Just these points so far.
On the last 2 battery pins I get .7v, on the 3rd from the bottom I get 3.4v.
I'm just not sure what to test next. Don't want to make it worse.
Off to manage my friends kids new school NB, wifi not on the approved list.
Now that the whoopla of first day of school is over I can look at that PDF and see how greek to me it will be.

That was my first thought also, but after getting some better closeups it is not burnt or bridged. They must have spilt pop on it.

Gateway MA2A power on issue pics included
My son got it off craigslist and has worked fine for a few months, then all the sudden it just shut off. I have 19v on the pos center pin on back of the dc jack, checked continuity on grd points and pos to pos of the jack while wiggling it and all says good there. It was running for a while on just the ac adapter and battery or HDD but quit again. With some finessing I can get it to power on again, but I don't know where to test from here.
It kind of looks like the pos pin has been reflowed, but not the other pins. Considering I found a small screw had magnetized itself to... -

I'm still in the process of recapping it, and had to reorder some 220uf since I miscalculated. I have read that also, it is just sometimes you never know.
So any way here is the pic of the board with the location of the caps just incase.

Dell XPS 400 one lone Heremi and uf change?
It is in a row/cluster of 5 other small caps of 2-220 16v, 3-470 6.3v, all YXG series. Reason being Digikey had only these close to origonal ripple spec.
Question is, can they be upped on the uf? After reading the other Dell threads, that they must have put that uf there for a reason, I'd like some opinion on the matter. I'll try to post a pic of the board shortly.

Thank You to all, what a task.
I was trying to look for a way to test the new ones to double check. I DO NOT want to do this again anytime soon! coffee and soldering don't mix sometimes. good thing I am very detail oriented and have patience. I just know that sometimes even new things can be faulty.
I suppose I could call around to see if any local tv-radio repair shop would test them for me.
Would they be able to tell me if the new caps were all good, weed out any weak ones?
