I bought an Aoyue 850A a couple of weeks back and havent had any issues... any advice or warnings on what to watch out for? So far it's done it's job and is very quiet....

How is that recommendation spamming? If he's buying two broken phones to get the boards from, I simply recommended he make sure they're usable in case he does a straight swap. I can't recall if his intention was to pull parts or do a straight swap, but it's solid advice either way I was just trying to be helpful.

Inspire 4G and desire logic boards sell for about 50 bucks with a good ESN....

Make sure the ESN is clean on the devices if theyre CDMA.

The Inspire 4G is possibly the biggest PITA phone to work on in my opinion. I loathe them. Godspeed.Re: The BGA problem is not limited t...> <br /> The

  • Re: $5 goodwill tower

Great post! I love parting out older systems when the owner decides to sell rather than pay for repair. Theres parts that sell that surprise me. I/O panel covers and floppy drives for one. I don't go further back than Pentium 4 though. and the towers are definitely a "back burner" project that sit until I have nothing else to do.

I just parted out and listed 6 different towers over the weekend. The hard drives and fans went first (which covered my initial investment). We'll see how the rest does.

    I hate to see working...

I bought one about a week ago. The build quality is very good. It seems to work fine, but i pretty much only have multilayer laptop boards to practice on. apparently it still works on multi layer boards, but the process is more complex. I'm stil llearning to use it, and hope to have some actually useful input soon!...

  • Re: Cleaning Motherboards - ATTN SMOKERS!!

I hate working on devices from smokers. I've seen drive trays with the channels so encrusted with tar that the tray seemed glued shut, fans making tar taffy with sticky nictoine dust bunnies, and phones that smelled so strongly of smoike that I had to completely tear them down and wash each parts individually to get the stink out. Blackberry models seem to soak of odors better than other phones, and it's for this reason that I'm glad RIM is failing.

I use a few things to get the stink out:

    isopropyl...

  • Pentium 3 CPU Under Electron Microscope

Theres some pretty cool pictures up close and personal with a P3 CPU. It's amazing how small everything is.

  • Re: Success story!

Nice! i had a similar experience with a toshiba P305 I bought to part out. The guy who owned it said he had a tech replace the fan and when he got it back it would turn on. So he decided to get rid of it. The "tech" had forgotten to tighten the CPU in place, and I was able to get it running and tested (but still parted it out)

Sometimes I get lucky, and sometimes I realize after buying a broken laptop that there is several ounces of liquid popcorn butter evenly distributed across the motherboard, but thats another story...

PlainBill, I purchased one yeserday after asking the manufacturer about your concerns (which concerned me too). Here is his response to the question of 8 volts cooking chips:

"NO, as the manual describes, it is current limited. The 8 volts drops down to 5 to 10 millivolts even on high shorts, and down to microvolts on near-zero shorts. In 20+ years that LeakSeeker has been available, there have been zero reports of any problems caused."

I know this is an old thread, but I thought this might be useful

Hello, My name is John. I'll be getting out of the Marine Corps after ten years in about a month. I've been an EOD Tech for the last several years which is what originally "sparked" my interest in electronics. My first experience with a breadboard while learning basic IED construction was a blast-and became my main interest within the field. Since then I've gotten into smartphone, iPad, laptop, and game console repair, but have learned just enough to know that I need more knowledge!

    I currently have a...
