Yeah I never pulled that off.

Re: Samsung PN58A55081FXZA. Is it hopeless?
I cleaned it earlier with alcohol didn't seem to matter.
Also, I just noticed - right above the 2 cables that are giving me trouble, the metal bracket/frame is noticeably hotter than the rest of the top of the unit if that makes any sense.
Thanks...

Samsung PN58A55081FXZA. Is it hopeless?
So I have been working on this TV for probably 6 months on my off time. Had to trace down a PS issue. Finally got it fixed and powered up and had some no picture areas. turn out the flex cable on the panel was loose. Reseated them, but still had 2 one or so pixel wide green bars but really wasn't very noticeable at all. This wasn't even a week ago. Then last night the area behind the green lines went black. Thought maybe I didn't seat the flex cable right. Pulled the back off, reseated the cable multiple times, and this is all I can get.
Is it hopeless? Think I might get lucky and...

Samsung PN58A55081FXZA: Is this PiP?
See attached. Just got the unit back together after a few months apart. The vertical bar at the top? I'm hopeful it's a loose connection - It was late last night when I got it powered up and didn't feel like popping the back off just then. I bet one of my dang cats walked across the back of the unit and knocked a wire or cable loose.
But the square in the middle? I would've done a reset right away but I don't have a remote for it yet (unit was given to me). Seems like a PiP - just a little strange that it would popup like this right off the bat and be in the middle of the screen....

Re: Samsung PN58A55081FXZA pops main fuses
Well I bought another PS on ebay that look ins pretty decent shape. Should work out of the box but if not I have a board I can scavenge spare parts from.
My question: Other than adjusting the Vs and Va to spec, are there any other adjustments I need to make?
Thx

Re: Samsung PN58A55081FXZA pops main fuses
Still not working but I put it aside to finish making my isolation transformer... I feel like I'm going to need to run power through it to find the short.
The thermistor I used is B57364S100M from Mouser. Seems to do the trick.
Good LuckRe: Samsung PN58A55081FXZA pops main fuses

Re: Samsung PN58A55081FXZA pops main fuses
Thanks for the reply.
I am using a 125W bulb. What would you suggest? 2 100W in series?
Thanks
Greg

Re: Samsung PN58A55081FXZA pops main fuses
I really don't know what to check next. I checked every component on the PFC schematic for shorts.
I also checked the following for shorts:
ICB804, ICQ802, QS801, QS802, QX801, QX802, ICM802, DS851-DS854, ICX852, ICX854, CP817S, CP818S, ICS801, ICX801.
Basically I checked every diode and transistor I could see and if it looked suspicious I would pull it and test again.
All I get it this: With PS plugged and no connectors connected -or- only logic board connected I get 3.3V on the STBY port on...

Re: Samsung PN58A55081FXZA pops main fuses
I tested the PS without the mainboard attached by shorting PS_ON on the connector to the logic board and the relay still pops over and over. I did have my test light bulb jig installed which has only a 125w bulb, but I figure with all other boards disconnected the wattage of the bulb was a non issue.
So what I have is a bn44-00183a SMPS that will not go into standby. Using the schematics I am testing each individual component for shorts or irregular behavior.
My question is this: What parts of the board are...

Re: Samsung PN58A55081FXZA pops main fuses
I replaced the bad FET but the unit will still not go into standby. The relay clicks over and over. I want to test this unit isolated but I want to be sure what pins to short to do this. Do I short direct or use a resistor?
Thanks
Greg...

Re: Samsung PN58A55081FXZA pops main fuses
@vinceroger69: I had the outer one bent forward but just to be sure I insulated it and the problem was still there.
BUT
I went back to square one and was testing all the components for shorts and it turns out the second MOSFET is now shorted. Wasn't before but it is now.... go figure. Anyhoo, I have ordered another one and we'll see what happens then.
Thanks for all the help.

Re: Samsung PN58A55081FXZA pops main fuses
Just so I'm clear, will the unit go into standby without the mainboard connected? Where exactly should I hook up the resistors to force the unit into stanby?
thanks

Re: Samsung PN58A55081FXZA pops main fuses
If I unplug mainboard and apply power - which I gather is what puts the unit in standby mode - light bulb is off and everything seems fine. Plug in the main bard and the relay starts clicking and test light flashing in unison.
I guess I need to get the unit in standby mode without the mainboard attached and see what happens?

Re: Samsung PN58A55081FXZA pops main fuses
LATEST:
Replaced the NTC Thermistors. I also fabbed up the lightbulb test jig and tested the unit with that installed. Now what happens is when I give the unit power relay RLQ802S (for the NTC Thermistor I presume) fires over and over. The light bulb test jigs also blinks. If I unplug the mainboard the clicking stops.
What should I look at next?
Thanks in advance

Is this a suitable replacement for a NTC Thermistor?
I am replacing SCK-20100 NTC Thermistors but can't seem to find em anywhere. I did find a product mfg by Ametherm that might work?
Edit: Or this one?
Thoughts?
