Re: Sony KDL 46WL140 vertical lines that eventually go away
Not this year. The last time I did it the unbelievable chest pain that hit me when I submerged put a real scare into me. I now do towel duty and support the other crazies. But it was fun.
I'm putting more shims in. Again.

Re: Sony KDL 46WL140 vertical lines that eventually go away
I am getting closer and closer. The top right tab is probably the main culprit and I have secured it with heat tape insulating foam. However, every time I put the chassis back on, walk away for an hour, turn it back on, I either get a few lines or a dark spot in the middle which goes away after a few minutes. I think I will secure all the tabs. All the suggestions are appreciated. I like the electrical tape padding. Inexpensive and readily available. The tab bond fix pics are awesome. Here we go again today!

Re: Sony KDL 46WL140 vertical lines that eventually go away
This aspect is all new to me, so please understand that I am experimenting more than following a guide to fix the issue.
I removed the plastic and have moved the metal back just far enough on the corners to put some thin cardboard shims in. The picture then looks great! For a bit.
When i tighten the screws the middle darkness and ghosting appear. Tapping on the loose screen does nothing, but pressing on the upper right corner changes the picture. I think I need to bend the screen slightly outward...

Sony KDL 46WL140 vertical lines that eventually go away
I have a Sony 46WL140 that has vertical lines when first turned on after being unpluggged for a few hours (See photo). After about 5 minutes, the lines go away.
After the lines disappear, the image is dark except for the left side and ghost images appear on the right side(see photo). After 15 to 20 minute, all problems go away and the picture looks good.
There is nothing obviously broken or loose. Any thoughts?

Toshiba 32AV502R cycles on/off
I have a 2009 32" Toshiba 32AV502R LCD TV that after a few minutes, starts to cycle on and off (sound and picture) every few seconds. The green led on the front flashes on, and it seems when the picture starts to appear, it shuts down for a few seconds, then the led comes on, pauses, the picture starts to show, and then it shuts down. I've done an inspection of the caps and nothing stands out.
When it is cycling on/off, the power button on the tv and the remote will not work. I have to pull the plug to shut it off.
When I have picture and sound, the 5vdc connections...

Re: One more-Toshiba shuts off after 20 mins. No sound nor picture
I'm not sure why the tv is working just fine, but it is. I did nothing but take it apart, test a few contacts, disconnect a connector and reconnect it, and it works. After about 20 minutes, I lost sound and picture. But now it works, go figure. Thanks to Tom66for all the help and and RONCET for the problem solving flow chart.

Re: One more-Toshiba shuts off after 20 mins. No sound nor picture
I am testing the pins on the upper left of the circuit board in the picture. This doesn't make sense to me but the only voltage readings I get are 5.0 from the three 5 volt pins. I get 0.00 from the 24 and 12v pins. I reconnected the connection and the tv is working fine. I will send readings when it overheats. Thx

I am a neophyte electronic repair person. I can test for power, but do not have the knowledge to answer your sugestion. Any other thoughts? Thanks for your patience.

One more-Toshiba shuts off after 20 mins. No sound nor picture
I have a Toshiba 32AV502R, 3 yrs old, that shuts down after 20 minutes or so; no picture, no sound. It will come on again after about 45 minutes and repeat this cycle.
I took the back off after it failed, the capacitors seem fine, but noticed a 3 second interval of buzzing coming from the power circuit board. I was able to isolate the sound that came from the circled part on the attached picture using the rubber tubing only of a stethoscope. This part does not buzz when the tv set is working.
I am going to replace this part, but can anyone tell me what it is so I...Last edited by jimdandar; 10-06-2012, 05:28 PM.

Thanks - We fixed them!
A thank you to all members who posted information that allowed me to fix not one but two lcd TVs! I've never attempted this type of repair, but the information available through this forum allowed me to identify the bad capacitors and how to replace them. My son-in- law gave them to me to sell or fix. I gave one back to him and kept the other. What a deal...........

Re: replacement capacitors
Thank you for your response. I have read the very informative links you posted. I really appreciate it. I have much to learn I repair exercise equipment such as treadmills and elipticals and just like to fix things, but have never attempted anything like this. Hoowever, new challenges keep the grey matter alive and well. I will take some pics and post them as I can. Life is very busy for me now and it is hard to spend a lot of time on this project although I so want to solve these puzzles.....
I see you are from the UK. I was stationed...

replacement capacitors
I have two magnavox 32MF231D/37 tvs. They were in a bar so they have had a lot of usage. They have power to the boards but no picture. From what I have read and learned on this website, some of the capacitors are bad - bulging or leaking tops.
I have found that one contributor stated that the Capxon 1200uF 35V can be replaced by Panasonic EEU-FC1V122L from Digikey (P10306-ND).
The other capacitor is an Elite 2200uF 25v. What is an equivalent?
Does Badcaps offer replacements for sale? I figure I might as well patronize the sponsor of this website, but...

new guy
When my son in law gave me 2 flat screens that didn't work, I googled the model # and found this website. What a great place! I tinker with many things but have never messed with TVs. After browsing around a bit, I know what's wrong (capacitors) and figured for an easy fix. UNTIL I started reading about soldering motherboards and practicing and what could go wrong, etc. I will read as much as I can before ordering parts and diving in.
I was on a thread for introductions, but I couldn't figure out how to place a post there, so I'm doing it here so i can gain...
