I have a Vizio P50HDM Plasma TV that will not stay powered on. It tries to power on but turns back off in 2 to 3 seconds. You can hear a power relay click on then click off. The power status LED goes from amber to green, then its clicks off and goes to amber green amber green amber green flashing 9 times and then stays amber.
I've tried to isolate the problem by unplugging the Y-sustain board from the power board – resulted in no change.
I've tried unplugging just the x-sustain board from the Y-sustain board (since that's how it's hooked up) – resulted in no change.
I...

Re: LG 42LB5D - No Picture, has sound and backlight, bad caps found
So i've replaced the fuse with another 2.5A 125V just like it is suppose to have and that blew right away.
As seen on another thread someone said to try unplugging the ribbon cables and test if it still blows, i popped in a new fuse and tried that and the fuse did not blow!
any suggestions as where to go next?
Heres a pic of my t con board. the ribbons are unplugged and i've added some wires to the old fuse to hook test fuses to.Re: LG 42LB5D - No Picture, has sound and...

Re: LG 42LB5D - No Picture, has sound and backlight, bad caps found
wow, thanks audiofreak! The fuse on the t-con board is bad!
It's a 2.5A fuse.
I don't have any of those around but i just tried putting a 2A fuse on it but that blew right away. I dont think I should dare put a 3A on it?
So i wonder what would be causing it to blow in the first place???

LG 42LB5D - No Picture, has sound and backlight, bad caps found
I have an LG 42LB5D that has no picture but has sound and has backlights. I opened it up and found many bad caps on the power board. A lot of them were puffed at the top, I replaced all of those with new ones, and changed out the other similar caps as well. The set still didn't work so I went back and swapped out the remaining ones in that area.
I did not test or touch the two biggest capacitors on the board.
I left 2 smaller remaining caps that I tested as good with a capacitance and ESR meter.
Not sure where to go next, any suggestions?

Re: Westinghouse SK-32H240S Continued problems
retiredcaps, thanks for your quick reply and help! I had a bit of homework to do in order to get back with you on this matter.
as for the secondary windings:
i'm not sure which is primary and which is secondary when looking at them, but i measured the resistance of the transformers connections from top to bottom and this is what i got. (in circuit)
1. 1765, 1760
2. 1807, 1805 (the new replacement)
3. 1733, 1728
as for the 12 blue caps in the inverter section: Yes they do all read as...Last edited by MajesticMike; 02-12-2013, 01:31 AM.

Re: Westinghouse SK-32H240S Continued problems
I have a Westinghouse SK-32H240S with the same problem as Xavier Renowned and Mike95inNJ (which is “2 seconds to black” But its 2 flashes of the back light. 1 flash shows the ‘W’ logo then another flashes the TV input then backlight stays off. You can see the picture if you hold a flash light up to the screen, and I do get sound.)
I had a burnt transformer and puffed up caps. I replaced the 1 bad of the 3 transformers, and a few bad caps. I've checked most of the caps with ESR meter and the rest...Last edited by MajesticMike; 02-08-2013, 12:27 AM.
