I have a Coby TFTV3227, with what _appears_ to be (now) the standard Samsung display failure problem.
I'm not posting photos unless really demanded, simply because I'm just trying to get confirmation that I have a dead display.
The display is model LTA320AP05, and the unit supposedly has the weird two inch square T-Con (which I can't locate. It might be under the front bezel), LG part number 6870C-0303B.
The issue is this. The top half of the screen is perfect. The bottom half shows horizontal lines. They aren't really obvious until something...

Coby TFTV3227 - half screen video problem.

Re: westinghouse lvm-37w1
One more update.
After using a heat gun to reflow some of the parts, I plugged it back in, and the unit _would_ power up. (it ignored the power button before, and I had to forcibly jumper the circuit) No menu or input options, but it's definitely a funky board.
I may put it in the oven for 15 minutes or so to get an even reflow before thinking about spending $70 on an old TV.

Re: westinghouse lvm-37w1
Just sort of semi-necroing the thread to add more information.
The power board for this item is somewhat common in various TVs, apparently - it's a DPS-336AP. (Strange mix of capacitor brands)
Unfortunately, the main controller board is _not_ common. It's a L37AVW43AAB, but the most common part number is 5600110382 (sometimes a L37A, which is actually the _board_ part number, not the full assembly part number)
I'm currently troubleshooting one of these my brother picked up for nothing. You can test the power...

Pro Video DVR-Q4/80 (self-contained 4 camera DVR)
(Manufactured by Speco Technologies under the ProVideo name)
I just pulled one of these out of a customer's office, and opened it up to see why they stopped using it.
Surprise, surprise! Bad caps. Not only bad caps, but bad cap choice as well.
(Pictures if requested)
The main power supply itself has the following capacitors
TEAPO 47uF, 400v (x2) (2cm)
TEAPO 1000uF, 25v (x3) (1cm)
TEAPO 100uF, 50v (x1) (8mm)
TEAPO 4.7uF, 50v (x1) (6mm)
That's it. Not much there, cap wise.
It then...

Re: AL1916W: backlight goes deed after 5s
Before I pull one back out and try to test voltage on pin 7, or something like that, any _detailed_ suggestions on what, remaining, to test?

Re: AL1916W: backlight goes deed after 5s
I'll test it again, but the meter is autosensing. It showed sort of the same thing on both AC and DC (as I recall).
Now, one thing I _could_ do is grab one of the power supplies for a scanner CCFL, and plug it into the tubes themselves and see what happens
I'd prefer to repair them myself - i figure that there aren't many folks on craigslist/freecycle that are going to be 1) better than I am at it, and 2) willing to put the time/money into the repairs.

Re: AL1916W: backlight goes deed after 5s
Okay, jumping back in again - I just pulled out the Acer monitor to do some additional abuse, especially since I now have a _second_ identical monitor with identical failure problems.
I've resoldered the transformers, just in case, as well as ran some voltage tests. The resistance is fine across the transformer. The suggested voltage test to ground from the CCFL attachment points all showed _under_ .2 volts for all points. Some were .2, some .1, and some .06 and so forth.
Quite frankly, I can't even find a surface...

Re: A Question for the Linux Crowd
I do computers for a living. I'm a heavy Linux user and administrator.
Don't try it. You're looking at a world of hurt if you do. If you want them to be able to _try_ a Linux distribution without actually accessing their hard drives, use flash drives. Yes, they're slower, but you can put a Kubuntu/Ubuntu/Xubuntu/whatever install on a 4 gig flash drive, and leave a couple of gigs for 'personal files and settings'. Let them get used to it, and if it works out, just install on their machine and copy the settings over from the flash...

Re: AL1916W: backlight goes deed after 5s
Okay, I'm going to have to throw myself on the mercy of the court. Here's the spec sheet for the MOSFET -
I can't figure out what to replace it/them with. (Also, looking through Ebay, I have to wonder why anyone buys caps from there in anything but surplus box lots. Mouser/Digikey are a lot cheaper - especially from one jerk who had a $32 shipping charge for one box of capacitors that I _know_ will only cost $4 to ship)

Well I'll be mogadored.
I've never seen anything but three legged MOFSETs before, so I thought those were ICs. Crap. I HATE working with surface mount components. Now I'll have to track down replacement MOFs.
Ok. Labeled 9971gm 611102
That's supposedly an ATMEL N-CHANNEL ENHANCEMENT MODE POWER MOSFET
I'm going to see if I can hunt it down to purchase - any suggestions on replacements?

Re: AL1916W: backlight goes deed after 5s
OZ9938GN, from what I can see.
Here's the problem. Looking at _both_ boards (the video controller board, as well as the main inverter board), I see _no_ MOSFETs.
None.
The closest I can find is that on the video controller board, there are two LD1117A voltage regulators that look like tiny MOSFETs, but obviously aren't
There are also two Schottky Barrier Rectifiers (SP10100c and SP1040c) and another similar semiconductor labeled 2761I.
I'll agree that it sounds...

Re: AL1916W: backlight goes deed after 5s
Here's a link to the repair/service manual for the power board. Apparently it's an LG model.

Re: AL1916W: backlight goes deed after 5s
I figured that I'd resurrect this thread, just because the pictures have already been posted by someone else.
I have the same monitor, with the same power board assembly. I also have the exact same problem.
Turn on the monitor, it receives signal, throws up the ACER logo, and blanks out in seconds. All but the 100uF 450V capacitor have been replaced (okay, anything larger than 47uF), and as you can see by the pictures, it doesn't have normal MOSFETs, but does have bridge rectifiers.
Now, where...

Re: clearing solder tubes
I've _never_ managed to get solder wick to work worth a hoot. I use a desoldering iron for some, and a solder sucker for the rest.
Sometimes I have to use the 'stainless steel pick' method. but if I can brace the board well, I've found I get almost a perfect record at clearing holes with the sucker - the cleaner the hole, the less likely it is you have to worry about ROHS vs lead solder.

Re: Brand new, never used with bad caps.
bad electrolyte and bad aluminum (contaminated) could cause enough internal pressure. Remember that heat is generally simply an accelerator of a reaction that will occur anyway.

Re: Logisys PS480D Power Supply information.
ABIT-NF7, Athlon 2400+, and one hard drive, with a CD-rom long enough to install Linux.
It'll probably last a long time

Logisys PS480D Power Supply information.
I just got one of these along with an Enlight case (not in the case, it was a package deal). I'm only running basic boards with them, so I'm not too worried about overloading.
Anyway - I haven't taken photos, and I don't know where my camera is right now, but here's the information on it.
10A input (110VAC)
+3.3v - max 28A
+5v - max 36A
+12v - max 16A
-5V - max .5A
-12V - max .8A
+5VSB - max 2A
max 'combined wattage' -
+3.3 and +5v = 200W
+3.3 and +5v and +12V= 330W
Total power...

Re: Linux saved the day again :-)
To point out, the newer versions of Ghost aren't Ghost. They're the other company that Symantec bought out. Basically, Ghost has been completely abandoned as of the Ghost 2003 dos version. They just relabeled the other (Windows based) package to 'ghost', and went on their merry way. It's similar to the "Office 2007" stuff, which isn't an upgrade. It's a totally new set of programs, that have almost NOTHING in common with the last decade+ of M$ office programs. (I'm not objecting to that. I'm objecting to reusing names of products. It's...
