I just bought bought an [url=http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1273332]Ultra V-Series 500watt PSU[/url].

I know these are mid-range quality, I only bought it because it was free after rebates on black friday

I cracked it open today to see what it looks like inside. The unit has never been powered up other then testing at the factory, so obviously there weren't any leaking caps yet.

Ultra has decided to save a few bucks...

Im just saying I would do them all becuase if one fails, the other are likely junk. Just do it and get it done. Try to keep as many the same specs as possible, like me though I couldnt.

They have to be low-esr or the board would probly not work at all.

Yeh just replace them all and be done with it. Update on my board, still going strong while running at 100% cpu load 24/7. Zero problems even under extreme load for all this time. I cant be happier!

Sure! Just kind of an update too, Ive been running this mobo with the 1200mhz duron everyday 24/7 folding (100% cpu load), and it still is running rock solid!

As for the brand of caps, they were kinda mixed , just used what I had around since its just a folder mobo. They were samsung, choyo, and that other brown colored one (cant remember name) that comes with DFI mobos.....

Yeh it was actually a customers that they brought to me after she wouldnt post.

The board is now mine and its just a crapper that as I mentioned Ill just be using it for folding. So, obviously I dont want to put much if any money into the damned thing. My question is, it had those shitty G-Luxon caps. They were rated at 2200uf 6.3v and there were 12 of those and 4 chokes. Thats honestly the most caps and chokes Ive ever seen for a cpu supply curcuit ever and this is a low end board! Would it be alright if I replaced them...

hmm Ill calculate the cost in caps and see if I cant just replace them with some used ones I have laying around. I will just be using the mobo for a folding rig anyway. Nothing workstation or anything of such....

Alright will do. Didnt realize OST was that bad. DFI uses them on their older boards (nf2) and no one has ever complained about DFI's caps....

The one I have to compare is a OST 100uf 16v 105c RLG cap. Its black with gold writing. Then, I have a smaller one that everything is rated exactly the same, and the colors and stuff are all the same. The only thing thats different is it says RSM rather than RLG. I couldnt find any info other than most low ESR caps are 105c, which both of these are. I also read somewhere that green or black wrapper with gold writing is usually low ESR.

Sound right?...

Capacitor Questions

Does the physical size of a capacitor matter? Like a tiny 16v 1000uf just as good as a large 16v 1000uf?

Also what about voltage? I have a mod that needs 6.3v or 16v caps, but will 25v of the same uf rating work fine?
