  • Hello,
I broke the chip of the BIOS that you modified when trying to solder it back,

I have other Latitude 5400s and I could follow and replace the 00 FC AA and 00 FD AA Patterns, I have flashed the modified BIOS but the screen will keep black and booting constantly... I tried to press F1 during boot and also pressing F2 during the boot but the screen will not turn back on... There is no signs of POST or any screen output at all... I can only hear the fans going on and then the computer will power off by itself after 30 seconds.

Does this mean that I did modified...

  • Hello,
it might be simple if you worked with it before, but is my first time playing around with bios dumps and flashing... I could only see certain patterns and not sure if the patterns repeat with the type of chip or not.
I did read the post but all the references to my model are towards a program that could patch it, it does not have any information or I could not find any information of why we choose those patterns and why we replace them like that. I am sure I can download other ones and replicate them, but my goal was learn, that's why I made the questions. Sorry if that bothered...

  • Thank you, I found out that will be in groups of 4 but... do i have always look for the same 4 patterns or depends on the laptop will be different? How you know which patterns are the ones that you have to modify? (I saw other 32MB dump on previous page and I saw that they had 3 of the same Byte groups that end in AA changed to 00, but there was one pattern that I did not have in my BIOS.. is there a list or documentation of all the possible variants that need to be modified ?)

    Thanks!...

  • thank you so much!
To make technical questions can be done on this forum or it is only for requests ? I am comparing the modified file with the original one to see what to change and I see you changed only 4 bytes from AA to 00... Is this right? how you determine which bytes have to be modified ?

    Thank you!...

  • Hello SMDFlea,
Thanks for the help! I have just attached to this message my BIOS dump. I greatly appreciate the help. I would also like to learn what was done to patch... Could you also pinpoint a place where I can learn how to perform the Hex Editing and some information about the different BIOS regions and why people have different sizes in the same laptop model ? Thanks!!

    Service Tag is: 6YRRF13

    Regards,
    Jorge...

  • Hello,
I am completely new to bios flashing and I am kinda lost...
My situation is similar to the one above.. I do not have a chip in UC5 only one in UC6... I could desolder it to dump the data but the data file that I obtain is a 32 MB file... And I saw it should only be 8MB... What that means? Did I get the wrong chip ? Which software can I use in linux to be able to patch my BIOS file?

    Thanks,
    Jorge

  • Hello,
I am a computer engineer and I have always been oriented towards Systems Administration, automation..., but recently I have started researching a little bit about embedded systems and I like it.
It is a really cool experience to mix my knowledge in Hardware and Software, and finally give some utility to that rusted electronics knowledge that I learnt in college.

I hope I can learn and provide value at the same time.

    Regards,
    Jorge
