• Re: Help needed: How to Crack Open Samsung 941BW?

Nope! Not e-bay. Panasonic says that's the normal configuration for those caps....

Thanks for your helpful response, mariushm.
A few days ago, I e-mailed Vince Pastor, Sr. Product Specialist - Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors - Panasonic. I got a response from him yesterday. He verified what you said, and also said that some of the Panasonic caps don't have the "M". So, it looks like I'm good to go with genuine Panasonic caps.

Thanks to all of you for your generous help. Without it, I couldn't even have figured out how to crack the case. I've replaced the caps with Panasonic...at least I think so. Well, anyway the monitor works like new.
The reason I write "I think so" is because some of the caps don't have the Matsushita "M" logo on them. The "T" vent is impressed on the top. There is a silver stripe with the Panasonic type minus signs on it. But, there is no name or logo on any of them....

Removed the PS. Sure enough...it's full of CapXon capacitors. Some are bulged. Looks like Samsung joined many others by installing some of the crappiest capacitors. I'll replace them with quality and report back.

Thanks for replying so swiftly....to both of you....
The You Tube video was helpful, and I will use a putty knife to split the halves. I have an unused one with a very thin blade.
Once I open the monitor, find out what has failed (most likely capacitors), and, if that's the problem, I'll replace them and get back with the results. Thanks again Mariushm and nickt1862.

I've got the base off, as well as the inverted T shaped back cover. There are three Phillips head screws holding the base holder to the monitor, which I haven't removed yet. I see four rubber plugs that the protrusions on the T shaped back cover snap into.
How can I get the monitor apart to check the MB? I suspect I may have some bad capacitors. I'm guessing that there may be screws under the rubber plugs, but I want to have that verified (I don't want to screw them up.....no pun intended).

• Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

I'm happy to have found this forum. My first computer was an Amstrad 8MHz. (That goes way back). There have been several others in between this one. Now I'm running an HP with W7 64bit and a 4 core AMD with 10GB. I found Badcaps while searching for a solution for my suddenly dead Samsung SyncMaster 941BW monitor. I found that another had a similar problem, and a solution was offered..probably bad capacitor(s). So, I'm going to open the monitor, check the components, and replace any that are defective. Thanks for being...
