Re: Testing bridge rectifier
Can I test a BR in circuit or do I have to remove?

Re: Need help repairing an audio amp schematics included
Redwire,
I completely agree with you and appreciate the advise. I'm using a fluke 289 and have the amp connected to an isolation transformer. I will solder the resistors back and attempt to do a voltage test and report back. Unfortunately only way to learn is to do it. I'm being as careful as possible. Thank you and everyone else for being so patient.

Re: Need help repairing an audio amp schematics included
Ok so I understand the the negative terminal part. I'm confused about the 18v, 380v & 19v? Do I put the red test lead on one of the leads on the resistor r288 to test the 18v? Im looking at the actual board and the page 6 of the schematics and am confused.

Re: Need help repairing an audio amp schematics included
Since I'm new at this I'm not sure exactly what to do. So I will measure dc voltage. I should put my positive test lead on r288 18volts and where should I put the negative? Same positive test lead on R288 380volts and where does the negative go? Sorry for the newbie question just want to confirm since its high voltage.

Need help repairing an audio amp schematics included
I'm trying to repair an audio amp which doesn't power up. I measured voltage at the br and got 123 volts. I measured voltage at the main caps and got 160volts. I noticed that r245 & r288 were getting very hot (I measured it at ~ 120 degrees fahrenheit). So I unsoldered one leg on each resistor and got the proper reading. What could be causing these resistors to heat up? Also what else should I test? I have included the schematic....

Re: Crown Amp
2. I did a continuity test on the switch and it passed.

Re: Crown Amp
I opened the unit. Checked the voltage coming in. I get 120 volts. I next checked the voltage at the on/off switch with it turned off I get 120volts. I turn on the on/ff switch and I get no voltage. Does this mean the switch is bad?

Crown Amp
I have a crown i-t8000 amp and it wont power up. When I attempt to power up I hear the fan for 3 seconds and it stops, nothing on display but the power led stays on. Does anyone have any suggestions or the service manual to this model?

Re: Power Supply Replacement Issue
I have the power supply in the garage I'll post pictures tomorrow. I will disconnect the hot lead from the 3 prong plug and cut it in half and connect one end of switch to psu and the other end to 3 prong plug?

Power Supply Replacement Issue
I have a DJ mixer main who's main psu died. I order a new one but its not the exact same. The old power supply has 2 leads going to the power plug which is mounted to the chassis and a connection for the on/off switch. The new power supply had the actual 3 prong socket for the the plug and doesn't have the connection for the on/off switch. I desoldered the 2 leads from the old psu and soldered it to the new psu. The mixer now powers up but has no on/off switch connection. My question is can I just attach the 2 lead on/off switch to the live lead on the psu? If so, will there be any noise intr...

Description of why a fuse blows
I have always heard that if a fuse violently blows its due to a mosfet or bridge rectifier. Can someone explain this in detail. Why would the mosfet or bridge rectifier fail and how does the fuse blow up? Sorry for the newbie question.
Thanks,
Johnny

Need explanation of video
Can someone please explain the technique in the video below? Where is he connecting his test leads? Does anyone else use this technique? From what I got out of the video you'd heat up each component and see which one results in the highest ohm value. Which ever one is the highest is the culprit? Is this correct?

Midi controller power issue
My midi controller which is powered via usb is not powering up. So I opened it up and remove the power board and checked the voltages. On the usb input I get 5 volts and on the V+BUS5D output connection cable to the next board I get 5 volts. So far so good. Now when I connect the power board to the next board the voltage drops to 4 volts on the main power board and also on the second board. I disconnect the second board and now I have 5 volts on the power board by itself. What could be the casue of this symptom?

Re: Cleaning electronic equipment
If I give a circuit board a bath to clean it up will it damage any of the components? Do I just put it in a bucket of water and leave it for a while?

Isolation Transformer
What Isolation Transformer do you guys recommend? I will be using it for light duty. I was thinking about the Tripp Lite IS1000HG.
