Re: Samsung PS50a410
I got the tv going. I wish I could say I found the short and replaced the component. But I took the easy option and sourced a cheap replacement board. On the plus side I have a very happy wife so I am going to take that as a win. Now to move on to the other 2 dead plasma's in my garage.
Many thanks to all the advice everyone gave me. If anything it's brushed up my rusty electronics knowledge.
Thank you to the guys at HEGE supporting Badcaps [ HEGE ] [ HEGE DEX Chart ]

Re: Samsung PS50a410
DS804 is measuring .019v both ways. Yes i would say an ISS355 diode should not be measuring like that. However it doesnt look damaged and is paralel to a resistor. Iv'e taken an image up close....

Here you go. It's doing my head in a bit. But I'll keep on trying. (as time permits)...

Re: Samsung PS50a410
Back finally. Let see:
Pulled out QS801 and QS802. Both of them have shorted across all pins. However there is still a short across pins 1-3 even with the components removed.
Bit worried if I try to smoke out the short I'll fry something thats currently fine. Is it really safe?

Bah, kids sick. Haven't had time to get back to it. Hopefully will get a chance in a day or 2.

Re: Samsung PS50a410
Pulling out components 1 at a time but there is still a short on the board somewhere. Oddly enough no short across the bridge rectifier. I'll find it eventually.

Re: Samsung PS50a410
Its right next to the fet. Short across the fet as well so it might be the fet not the rectifier. Will look tonight....

Re: Samsung PS50a410
Thought I would be thorough before firing it up again. found a short across pins 1 and 3 of DP802. I wish I saw that before I ordered parts. Oh well off shopping I go again.

Re: Samsung PS50a410
1) I sourced the same fet.
2) The Fet didn't have thermal paste, just thermal pad.
3) The tv displayed static, but I did not have an antenna in. I presume it was on analog input.
I am also struggling to find a suitable replacement thermistor. I'm looking at www.jaycar.com.au (the only shop open today).
Cant find a 10A thermistor. Is a lower amp just going to blow again?Re: Samsung PS50a410

..., just thermal...

Re: Samsung PS50a410
Its in the correct area. Looking at the original photo I didn't see it had cracked. Oh well that's an easy fix. Still think I need to replace the IC? (as much as i love surface mount soldering)...

Excellent call. DB803 had split in half. Not too sure how I missed that....

Ok now to find the malfunctioning IC. Am I going to need an oscilloscope?...

Re: Samsung PS50a410
A non linear resistor is the closes symbol match I can find. I have packed up for the evening so I'll do some measurements tomorrow.
Edit: Ok yes I am an idiot, and a thermistor is a non linear resistor.Last edited by nickdablack; 05-18-2012, 03:24 AM.

Re: Samsung PS50a410
Found it. NT801S has shorted and exploded. It is listed as SCK20206LSY. Not too sure what that is. Looks like a capacitor, however the symbol on the circut diagram is not a capacitor. I am going to have to look it up. Any thoughts?...
