Re: Beware next generation Chinese fake Sanyo WG!
Digikey's international shipping rate to Thailand starts at 40 USD.
(and 30 for France, 60 for Poland, for example).
More or less the same for Mouser and Newark the last time I tried....

Re: NCC KY 6.3V 470uF
As others have said, probably not fake. I spot three of them in my Netgear
DG834G wireless router. Unless the factory uses fake caps....

Re: Burned tantalum caps in old Agfa Scanner
Hi, would like to report back that it works fine now. I replaced all the 22uF 16V's with SMD style caps
which happened to be available locally and left the 10uF 16V ones and others untouched since they
all looked OK (and I hope they are OK). Cheers....

Re: Burned tantalum caps in old Agfa Scanner
Thank you. That gives me some confidence when finding
replacement parts.
From what I've read tantalum caps are not very reliable.
My incident matches this article (fail when turning on after
having been unpowered for a long time).

Anyway, I plan to check the voltage and recap as many as I can.
Cheers!Re: Burned tantalum caps in old Agfa.../> Thank you....

Burned tantalum caps in old Agfa Scanner
Hi, when turning on my Agfa StudioScan II (manufactured around mid 90s)
which has been unused for several years, there was smoke coming out from the vents
(smelling like new electronics). I open it up and I see these two tantalum
bead caps with burn marks.
The caps read 22-16 and ++② (number 2 in a circle). Does anyone know what the
number 2 in the circle means?...

Re: Powermac MDD 2002 PSU API1PC36 REV-A 360W Recapping
Hi, now I'm typing from the MDD.
All the bad symptoms are gone; Date & Time/clock is back to normal like when it was new.
Even the blinking Power Light when powered on is back to its own self.
BTW, apart from the bulging C60 Teapo, all the other bigger sized caps seem fine.
I think the problem is mainly from those smaller LTEC caps, very much like severach's problem (especially the C45):

Re: Powermac MDD 2002 PSU API1PC36 REV-A 360W Recapping
OK, it's normal, after comparing with another Mac.
Plugged it in, shorted the pins 11 & 23. It turned on without using load resistor.
May be it's like JOHNBOY's unit.

All 24 pins read correct voltages. Then I tried connecting PSU fans, they spun.
I'm going to reassemble it into the Mac.Re: Powermac MDD 2002 PSU API1PC36 R...fter comparing

Re: Powermac MDD 2002 PSU API1PC36 REV-A 360W Recapping
I've replaced all of the 26 caps and the resistor. So eager to try running it.
But is it normal to have continuity between red wire and black wire from
the power supply down to molexes ?
Red and Black = 22.5 ohms (endless beep from multimeter)
Yellow and Black = 187 ohms (a brief beep with touched)
Red and Yellow = 172 ohms (a brief beep when touched)
I would ask this before plugging it into the wall in case there's something wrong
that is preventab...

Re: Powermac MDD 2002 PSU API1PC36 REV-A 360W Recapping
OK, will do, thanks.
But now I'm not so sure if it's a 20K. The color code looks like Red, Black, Orange, Gold.
But the orange isn't so bright, a bit brownish. If it's brown, the resistor is
then a 200 ohm.
I've attached two pictures. The first is the location where it used to be. The second is to
compare its color (the other side surface is still intact) with other resistors. As you see,
the one with red arrow has got bright orange. But at the same time, another...

Re: Powermac MDD 2002 PSU API1PC36 REV-A 360W Recapping
Hi, I've decided to recap all of them, excluding those big 100uF/450v caps.
During desoldering, I found a resistor covered with cracked heat shrink tube.
When I removed the tube, the coating of the resistor chipped off with the tube.
So I removed it from the board. It measured 19.88K. The color coding looks like 20K.
So it's probably a 20K. The size is around 5 mm in diameter and 15 mm long.
It was located near a transformer, in the red marking.
Can I continue using...Last edited by dyenamix; 06-17-2012, 10:13 PM.

Powermac MDD 2002 PSU API1PC36 REV-A 360W Recapping
Hi,
I'm completely newbie to this. The only related things I've done were changing
ROM chip in a graphic card and playing with multipliers in the MDD CPU daughter
card by following tutorials. I don't know any electronics behind it. So please bare with me.
Symptoms
Date & Time settings loss
The problem started about a year or two ago with losing date & time settings when
turning on. PMU resetting and new PRAM battery didn't help. The date would go back
to 1970 even though the power cord is plugged into the...
