Re: 42PFL7422D/37 Service Manual Needed
Hi Selldoor
The sound works, but the ghost image no longer presents and the backlight does not lite anymore. I did try to preheat the Black Lelon cap with no effect. Same for the new main power supply cap.
On the secondary side connector I got the following readings
BL-DIM - 0.0V
PO - 0.0V
BL-ON - 0.02 V
GND - 0V
NC - 0.0V
PSON - 4.07 V
5.2VSS - 5.08 V
12V - could not contact with DMM.
Both the Main Power supply fuse and the Red fuse on the SSB...

Re: 42PFL7422D/37 Service Manual Needed
2nd time around resolding the connections outlined in the diagram -was able to suck the majority of the old solder and do what I think is a good resoldering. but still no resolution of the problem. Heating cap and that area of the board now does not work. I'm baffled.

Re: 42PFL7422D/37 Service Manual Needed
Ok. I was not able to remove the old solder - 25 Watt iron didn't produce enough heat to let me suck it up. but I held it on each connection until it was liquid and added a bit more solder, but no excessive amounts. Some of the connections did look suspect before and they all joints look good now. But I've got nothing now, even with the heatgun to the cap - on one try.
So I suspect I'm onto a problem here. Do you think I need to pick up a 40W or 60W iron to do this job properly? and do I need to suck up the old solder then...

Re: 42PFL7422D/37 Service Manual Needed
Update on my 42PFL7432D/37.
The no light - no image problem returned after a few days so I tried the trick suggested by selldoor of heating the large capacitor (see red box in picture) with a hair dryer before startup. It solved the problem so I ordered the replacement cap until they got the proper one and I soldered it in.
Unfortunately the problem has not changed. If I heat the new capicitor with a hair dryer, it starts up fine, otherwise no image. Hmmm.
Any thought / advice would be apprceiated....

Thanks retiredcaps. I really appreciate your feedback and the link to the robotroom has some v good info.
I'll pick up one of the multimeters on sale. In Victoria I've found the popular online resale venue is UsedVictoria.com with the other auction sites getting very little play (just a regional thing I guess). I may put up a wanted ad and see what comes up.
Are you interested in parting with one of your Flukes? It sounds like I may have to bid against you to get one!
Thanks Again

Well what are your thoughts on this:
Equus 3320 Auto-Ranging Digital Multimeter - $19 @ Amazon
Honeytek A6013L Capacitor Tester - $16 @ Amazon

Re: 42PFL7422D/37 Service Manual Needed
Well, I did take pics of the connectors and test some voltages, but didn't have both boards in or the connectors attached, so wasn't getting meaningful #'s.
When I put the the connectors on I couldn't test the volts w my meter probes, so I tried the remote and Presto! It seems to go though warmup in a few seconds and gives the picture in less than 20 seconds. So far everything seems in order. Too good to be true, but I'll take good luck when it comes along.
When I had the boards out I noticed a couple of solders...Last edited by Panama; 04-17-2012, 06:13 PM.

Re: 42PFL7422D/37 Service Manual Needed
That's probably my fault for forgetting to point it out in the first place. A 'best fit' search result landed me here in the first place and I found alot of good info but forgot that it wasn't quite the same set.
Now the TV is stuck in error code mode and won't respond....

no ESR tester I'm afraid. I'm about to try selldoor's strategy of prewarming the caps with a hair dryer to see if that reduces the warmup period before picture lites up. Unfortunately, now I'm just getting a red flashing error code 6 - 3. Hmmm! Any thoughts on that?

I did download and go thru it. It's too technical for my bandwidth. but it's a v.useful link.

Re: 42PFL7422D/37 Service Manual Needed
Many thanks.
budm; The chassis is Q523.1U.LA
I thought it was addressed in the service manual that I accessed earlier in the thread, but on closer inspection I think not. It's too technical for me to get much out of at any rate.
Selldoor: The blue caps and the larger black one on the SSB board are all Lelon. I will reassemble it and try the manual warm up and report back with the results.
retiredcaps: 1. I'll attached pics of the caps on the power supply.
2a. The LED is Blue whenever it's...

Re: 42PFL7422D/37 Service Manual Needed
Thanks. My skill levels are dated, but I can usually take on a challenge like this successfully. My multimeter is an old analog - reliable, but maybe limited in setting options. I have the necessary soldering equipment and will pick up any supplies that seem necessary for this job. I do not have a scope or a capacitor tester - hopefully I won't need one.
I double checked the image with a flashlight on cold startup. Previously I thought there was no image, but in fact it is there, just not lit up.
I've taken...

Re: 42PFL7422D/37 Service Manual Needed
Hi. I'm also a new to this, and seriously challenged by my 42PFL7432D/37. It has difficulty raising the LCD image. Often I have to leave it on to 'warm-up' for half an hour then restart it to get an image on screen. Then everything is fine until the next cold start - reminds me of the radio in in my first car.
It's the same configuration as the set described and pictured by Foreveraltared previously. It has no master/slave inverter boards, only the power supply board (delta-dps-168ep / at shopjimmy.com it's the Philips 272217100586...
