  • Re: Iwill DVD266u-RN Stability Fixes [UPDATED]

Update: Well it's Spring and playtime is over. Its been a long haul smoothing out the wrinkles in this system but the information I've received on this site has been helpful, so thanks to all for your input, especially those that took the time to answer my queries personally. This board has been working quite well for some time now and I thought it may prove of some value to leave an update on my experience should someone else jump into the IwillDVD266u-RN pool.

Right now I'm using 3gbs of Corsair XMS3200 memory with...

For what it's worth, my Iwill board works quite well using a BFG GeForce 7800 OC.

Additionally in relation to my RAM posting above; I can use 3 X 1gb sticks of unbuffered non-ECC RAM as a maximum limit. Adding any additional, even only 512mb leads to incomplete post and screwy display lettering. I tried various combinations of RAM with interleaving but no increase in speed and seems to be happiest with the 3gb maximum....

All attempts to use registered RAM with this board ended in complete failure to post so I would assume that unless the 3X1gb sticks I tried were all bad this board wasn't designed for registered modules....

Well I never did sell this board but after laying it aside for another year I am now in the process of setting everything up. So far after using all the information on this site I am well pleased with its performance, especially considering the old technology. Right now I'm using only 2 sticks of Kingston KVR400X72C3A/512 memory but wish to install the maximum allowed 4gbs, which I believe can be set within the BIOS to use interleaving process. As I referred to before, this manual is pretty lame and concerning memory information it...

Well you certainly were on the right track. I'd measured the pins on the PSU connector before and found them to be correct as well as the wire positions as installed on the connector. I never thought the MB may have it's pins in a different order and as it turned out they are OK also. What I failed to do was measure the voltage with the connector installed to the MB and when I did that last night I found in this configuration the 3.3v supply drops to 3.1v, and in fact so do all the other 3.3v feeds (which makes sense)....

I really can't say because the page you directed me to was in a language I couldn't read and there weren't any diagrams or graphics there, sorry. But this single connector is identical each of the older 2 power connectors that connected the PSU to the AT specification motherboards, except this one has a different set of wires leading into it, different voltages and a different keying tab location to prevent improper insertation. It is flat with the 6 terminals in a single row. The wires are: 3x black (grounds), 2x orange (3.3v), and...

Thanks Rainbow, for all your efforts to help figure this out. You're the only member of this site that took the time to answer my problem. Regarding this issue of auxiliary connectors: the one you found on that site is a connector originally offered that was not only designed to provide an extra power connection but be a means of checking and controlling the cooling fan, monitor the +3.3v power to the mb and provide grounding to IEE-1394 devices, but evidently the standards were never defined and Intel did away with it. Most PSUs provide...

I'm still looking for input as to the reason my DVD266u-RN won't post or show a video signal when I connect the AT power connector. It works OK if I unplug it but if this MB doesn't need to extra 3.3v & 5.0v feeds why was it designed this way? Has anyone out there run across this problem? Any ideas or suggestions is certainly welcome.

Using the information I have in a manual the wires are in the correct order and all pins line up correctly with the mb. In addition all voltages are correct on this connector. I did take time to install Windows 2000 with SP4 and it does boot into windows but never beeps. With the connector (aux) connected to the mb the monitor shows no video signal coming through. Pretty screwy, huh?

Thanks for your input Rainbow! That helps relieve my concerns over this CPU. In addition I am wondering about my other problem as to just why this board will not function with the auxiliary power connected. Actually though I guess it may may be functioning since I haven't loaded an OS and therefore wouldn't hear a beep after post, for what I see is a black screen and nothing else. I guess what I may have here is loss of monitor signal with the auxiliary power connected and a monitor display that is OK with auxiliary disconnected. Seems...

  • Re: Iwill DVD266u-RN Stability Fixes [UPDATED]

I have an IwillDVD266u-RN that came with two Tualatin 1.4ghz cpus and I have it laid out on the bench with the psu, optical drive, floppy drive, monitor, keyboard and mouse connected. For awhile I couldn't get this thing to post but after disconnecting the AT power connector, which I assumed was the auxiliary pwr connector, it did post OK. I can now go into the CMOS and presumably begin to load an OS but wonder about the pwr connector. Of course I've checked the manual but that is one of the poorest MB manuals I've seen to date and...
