Re: Dell XPS 8300 issues
I emailed corsair before I visited this forum asking about a good psu and if it could damage my system. And you said I'm fine with my dell 8300 to upgrade the psu right?
This is their reply:
Dear Kyle,
All of our PSUs meet the latest ATX specifications (ATX 2.1-ATX2.3), however not all system manufacturers build their systems to ATX spec.* this is why there are reports of aftermarket power supplies damaging OEM systems. You will neeYd to make sure that the system you have is designed for a standard ATX PSU.* In some cases...

Re: Dell XPS 8300 issues
Could the PSUS in my old dells (sent back for replacement since then) be what made the fans go SUPER SUPER Loud and make the smoke+burn smell?
And if I'm into gaming on my PC, and multitasking with several applications open, does that affect the PSU I should get?
I really appreciate everyone that's helped me with this so far, thank you.

Re: Dell XPS 8300 issues
Also, I know this is off topic, but should I put some Arctic Silver on my CPU instead of dells cheap crap? I don't think it comes stock.
Will these PSU'S both fit my case?Last edited by Kylethedude1; 03-14-2012, 09:26 PM.

Thanks for everyone's help! This forum has helped me ALOT with this issue.
I just have another question, corsair or antec? Price does somewhat matter, but I'm willing to spend 20-45 bucks more on something that will last longer. is it also true that using non dell PSU's fry components? And is special connectors on Dell PSU'S an issue?

Re: Dell XPS 8300 issues
How can you decide if I should get just a new psu or recap my board? My mobo has kzg, on it and other ones I can't read.

Re: Dell XPS 8300 issues
Cool, thank you!
I will have to keep that in mind.
So my 8300 is probably safe to use for a few weeks at least until I build my own?

Re: Dell XPS 8300 issues
Should I be afraid to the point that I don't even want to turn it on? Or is that just being over reactive? And how loud is a cap going?

Dell XPS 8300 issues
Hey guys,
I am on my 3rd replacement xps 8300 from dell in under a year span due to smoke and VERY loud fans at random times(jet engine loud) usually upon startup let's say once out of 300 start ups and after the loud fans smoke follows. Anyways, I opened my case, and found Su scon and KZG caps on the mobo, and capxon in my dell PSU... What's the worst that could happen to me? Im very nervous to even plug in the newest replacement I was sent, I have a vision it will happen again, and if I leave it unattended it will go up in flames. Please tell me how I should appropriately deal...Last edited by Kylethedude1; 03-13-2012, 02:40 PM.
