• Re: Hanns-G HG281D, LCD Monitor no power

Well OK, I'm back here, the topic where I once posted, years ago.
My HG281D monitor is from 2009, and until this day I'm still using it. Sitting in front of it right now as we speak.

Over the years I have done several repairs.
The logic board was completely recapped. The power supply had to be done TWICE, as some of the caps were bad quality.
I now use Rubycon, Nichicon, Jamicon or United Chemicon, in that order.
It is a lot better.

I have never bought actual caps. Anyway, where I live it...

• Re: lenovo nm-c861 disable ram in bios

Sorry for bumping someone else's thread, but I've just stumbled on the same issue with this board.
System is ideapad 3 14-are05, board NM-C861.
I'm looking for a way to disable onboard memory, either by hardware or BIOS.
Schematic is not available, so it seems.
Any help will be appreciated.

Cheers.

Tested working, no issues at all. Components are on the underside of the board.

Cheers.

Hi SMDFlea, you just saved me from buying another board, I flashed both chips on the board, same IH61I rev. 1.0.
This is a type 4004 machine and your files are working flawless.

Cheers....

Re: Lenovo G40-80 bios

Hi Romulo,
I've just bought a TL866 plus programmer and today a client brought a broken Lenovo G40-80.
It turned out the bios was bad.
I used your bios file that you posted here and the notebook now works again.

So you helped me with that file, and it's also the first notebook ever that I could repair by desoldering the bios, programming it and soldering it back.
I had never done that before because I didn't have a programmer.

Thanks!

• Re: Viewsonic VG920 2 seconds...

Just wanted to add my experience with this inverter board, the same one as posted but found in Acer AL1706ab.

The board looked perfectly fine, no bulged caps.
But turning it over to observe the solder side, underneath one of the inverter transformers there was a big burned spot.

Measuring the secondary winding of that transformer: It resulted to be open.
I opted to buy the complete board on Ebay for 20 USD because the transformer itself could not be found (maybe in China but to expensive due to shipping)...

• Re: AL1916W: backlight goes deed after 5s

Sorry to dig this up, but I wanted to report the tip supplied by magistertc worked in my case. It was explained here:
https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showpost.php?p=81234&postcount=58
Acer 1916W. Same problem.
This monitor has the same OZ9938GN. I found the OVP on pin 7 of IC501 to be 1.2 volts, and vsense would rise to 1.7 volts and the backlight was shut down.
The solution was to put a 1M resistor 1/8w between pin 2 (vdd) and pin 7 (OVP)
OVP is now at 2.1 volts and the backlight...

• Re: Need pce-tur capacitor datasheet

Sorry to dig up an old thread, just wanted to report that I bought 20 of these Pce-tul caps, 1000uF / 25V.
Comparing them with the usual chinese junk, they are pretty good.
In my country it is impossible to get Nichicon, United Chemicon, Rubycon for example.
The CEC caps are somewhat higher and smaller, making them OK for power supply's but for LCD monitors I think the won't fit.

Cheers.

Wow you kids can get stuff over there I only dream of...
Here are my tools:
soldering iron brand Techman

Solder

And an ordinary tinsucker. I've always used this sucker, they last about a year each.
I dont use "braid", can never get the pad clean no matter what.

• Re: Hanns-G HG281D, LCD Monitor no power

PieEyedPiper,
Reading your post it seems you did not recap the logic board, is that correct?
The kit you ordered only included the caps for the psu part then?
In my experience the HG281D comes with different revisions of power boards.
This -may- be the reason for the missing cap.

Personally I don't buy repair kits. I just make a list of all caps needed and buy them at the electronics shop in my town.
Often they don't have the right caps, then I just pull them from scrapped PSU's or motherboards....

Sweet, those Capxon caps may be the source of your problem. I agree with retiredcaps that replacing them is the first thing to try.
Hope you'll report back mmamuk.

Cheers.

The power supply has United Chemicon caps.
You forgot to post pics of the logic board, my problem was similar to yours and it turned out to be faulty caps on the logic board.

Cheers....

• Re: Hanns-G HG281D, LCD Monitor no power

@mclarengt:
That logic board is quite different from my logic board (HG281D).
It looks like it has heated up, judging from te PCB color, top&bottom.
If you have the 5VSB (amber led as you said, but trace and measure anyway) then it could indicate a failure on the logic board.

There are two big regulators on that logic board, try to measure the input and output of those components.

Cheers.

Don't bother with the smps IC. If you have 5v standby, most probably the smps is OK because if not the PSU wouldn't come up at all.

Also note that modern smps have protection build-in. If the current rises above certain level the smps shuts down. The fluctuation you are seeing might be just that.

If a the standby current is rated at 1.5A, it doesn't mean that it has to pull 1.5A. I can't imagine this monitor draws that much on standby. It would typically be much lower than that.

Hello all,

First off, sorry to come busting in like this. This is my first post and I would like to thank PlainBill and retiredcaps for their help, you may not not know it but I've been reading your posts fore some time and learned a great deal.
I would also like to thank the rest of the members on this board and especially those who shared their experiences with this Hanns-G HG281D. It allowed me (finally) to repair my own monitor.
Please bear with me, I live in South America and English is not my native language....
