Finally got a chance to pull the panel off this TV. The single strip of LEDs at the bottom have no dead LEDs and all light up bright. The diffuser panel and diffuser sheet seem to be correct, but the light just does not spread to the top of the panel. Is this normal for these edge lit TVs? Any suggestions or input?

    Back from the dead.

I picked up one of these alarms today and immediately took it apart. Looks like they’ve changed the circuit. They no longer use a reed switch and have replaced it with a HM6207 Hall Sensor in the bottom right corner. Only component on the backside of the board is the power switch....

I assumed they were sold as two shorter strips that both adhere to the bottom. The TV is 54” wide, so for manufacturing/shipping, it more economical to produce and package two 26-27” wide strips than to make a single 50”+ long strip.

Another consideration is that it uses 68 SMD LEDs per strip and they appear to be spaced fairly close together. The largest SMD LED I'm aware of is the 8.5mmx 2.0 mm. 68 * 8.5 = 578mm / 25.4mm = 22.76”

I need to just bite the bullet and tear it down and...

I assumed that since this is an edge lit TV, and the backlights are only along the bottom edge and there’s a bright strip along the bottom that the backlights aren’t the issue. But maybe there are sections of that one strip that aren’t functioning and the other sections are enough to fill across at the bottom of the screen, but not bright enough to fill the whole screen.

Dang. I was hoping by now someone would have some experience with this symptom on an edge lit TV.

  • Re: Removing large LCD panels

I’d be interested in seeing that process. Standing the thin panels on edge would make me nervous though, especially for those that have tabs on the bottom (or top) edge. I guess you’d just flip the TV so the non-tabbed side was resting on the floor....

  • Removing large LCD panels

I'm curious what techniques everyone uses to remove/move/lift large LCD TV panels when doing backlight repairs. I typically use two large suction cups, but lifting a 65" panel off a LG a month ago and I got a little too close to the wall and accidentally crammed the corner of the panel into the wall (gouged the drywall even) which resulted in a single crack all the way across the panel. Thankfully I just do this as a hobby on TV's that I scrounge up to repair and sell, so I didn't have to make a dreaded phone call to a customer.

That incident got me thinking about making some...

  • Vizio E601i-A3 top half of screen dim

A buddy brought me a TV that his work was throwing out. It powers on, has video, but the top half of the screen is dim. From what I've researched, this is an edge lit TV, and I think that the LED strips (shopJimmy offers two strips) are on the bottom edge. On this TV, the bottom of the screen is bright. I'm wondering if this is caused by a faulty panel? Or is this something that can be repaired?

Has anyone else experienced this symptom on an edge lit TV?...

  • Re: Insignia NS-43DR620NA18 standby light blinking

Uh oh. I fired up the TV this morning and noticed a slight flickering. A couple minutes later noticed this dark band across the middle. Another LED must have died on the middle strip. Luckily this TV has the strips wired in parallel so that the rest of the strips continue working even if one dies. Time to try to find a full replacement set of strips....

Did a factory reset and it appears to have cleared the flashing standby light. Thanks for the suggestion.

So I've been using this TV daily for the past two weeks. I'm only using it as a second display for my laptop. Everything seems to work fine on it but every couple minutes the standby light flashes 6 times. I assume this is an error code? Does anyone know what this code means?...

Will do. Got to love freebie TVs that people are throwing out. This will go in my office. It's a little bigger than what I've got in there....

  • Re: Insignia NS-43DR620NA18 standby light blinking

I pulled the panel and was able to use the diode/continuity setting on my DVOM to test each individual LED on each strip. There was a bad LED on each strip. I had some replacement LED's on hand from a previous repair so I went ahead and swapped out those 5 LEDs. I anticipate that another LED is likely to fail on one or all of the strips at some point, but this may get me along for a while longer until the replacement strips are back in stock at shopJimmy. The only indication that there's anything different is the...

    +LED - 44.2V before settling at 28v
    -LED1 - 0
    -LED2 - 0

I’m guessing that I’m getting no voltage on either -LED pin due to one/many bad LEDs (open circuit) on one of the strips?

Measuring voltages per markings on the bottom of the board is the same as before, but here's the updated labels.

    ON/OFF - 0 (3.3v)
    NC - 0
    GND - 0
    GND - 0
    +16V_A - 16.5V
    +16V - 16.5V
    +16V - 16.5V
    +5V - 0.1V
    DIM - 0 (1.9V)
    PS_ON - 3.4V
    GND - 0
    GND - 0
    +16V_A - 16.5V
    +16V - 16.5V
    +16V - 16.5V
    +5V - 0.1V

Just now when I powered the TV on, I still get the two quick flashes from the standby light, but...

  • Re: Insignia NS-43DR620NA18 standby light blinking

Someone mentioned LED strips. Is there a way to test the strips prior to pulling the panel out of this thing? The LED connector has four +LED pins which each measure 27.9V. The connector also has eight -LED pins. ShopJimmy lists a set of 5 strips for this model. Each strip has 10 LEDs according to the photos on their site. So if 10 LEDs per strip are connected in series, it’d mKe sense that they’d be 2.8-3.0V LEDs being powered by the 27.9V but I’m curious how the 5th strip gets power? There’s only 4 +LED pins.

So it appears that the markings on the top side of the board are wrong. Looking at the bottom of the board, you'll see that the two GND pins are next to the NC pin, followed by the +16V_A pins. The top side of the board is marked differently....

  • Re: Insignia NS-43DR620NA18 standby light blinking

A little update. I just went back down to my workbench and noticed that I’d left the TV plugged in for 10-15 minutes. I pressed the power button and I heard some audio through the speakers and then the standby light did two quick flashes with a pause between. Trying the remote, adjusting volume and pressing home button produces sound from the speakers. I was also able to verify that there is some words on the screen using the flashlight method.

I measured voltage at the backlight connector. The +VLED pins have...
