Re: Dell XPS 600 Mobo Capacitors
Or just post a link to a viable replacement, that'd be even easier. Thanks.

Re: Dell XPS 600 Mobo Capacitors
Haha, yeah, I'm not having the best luck, and I'm so rusty on what is and isn't a flexible rating. If you could send me the data sheets or the link to a viable replacement.

Re: Dell XPS 600 Mobo Capacitors
Hmmm, the search for a replacement inductor is not going well. How specific do I need to be with the DCR and inductance?

Re: Dell XPS 600 Mobo Capacitors
Thanks for the help gents! I should be able to find a comparable coil with that. I know it's hit or miss, but my brother can't afford to replace his whole mobo right now (poor college student), so it's kind of this or bust.
Edit: It's pretty obvious from the arcing and scorch marks that it was the coil that bit it, and took the local caps with in. The MOSFETs still look good, but should I replace them anyways, just to be safe? It's mostly superficial damage to the PCB, not real scoring or pitting, just discoloration, so we will see if...Last edited by GRSHOPR; 04-04-2012, 10:27 AM.

Re: Dell XPS 600 Mobo Capacitors
OK, I guess am going to revive this old thread, as I can't find the answer elsewhere. Topcat, do you remember the ratings for the toroid coil? I have this exact problem, I've replaced the caps (many thanks again to bonez and others for there help on that one), and this is the last component. It's completely fried, no chance of rewrapping it.

Re: Replacements for old Cap series?
Sorry about the delay in response. Had a whole bunch of exams happen within a few days. OK, here's what I'm thinking for the replacements. Let me know if you guys approve. Thanks.

You sir, are a scholar and a gentleman. I will generate a list of components, then throw them up here for approval. Thanks again. The kid is having withdrawal from Star Wars ToR. Haha...

Re: Replacements for old Cap series?
Here is what Rubycon said.
The MFZ series was designed for a specific OEM because of this I have no
data to cross.
The ZA series was replaced with the ZLJ series and the YXG series is
currently available.
MFZ - No replacment
Rubycon 6.3V 220uF, ZA series (model A0532) - 6.3ZLJ220M5x11
Rubycon 6.3V 470uF, ZA series (model A0537) - 6.3ZLJ470M6.3x11
Rubycon 6.3V 220uF, ZA series (model A0538) - Duplicate 6.3ZLJ220M5x11
Rubycon 25V 47uF, YXG series (model A0534)...

Re: Replacements for old Cap series?
It came out of a Dell XPS with liquid cooling, so I don't think it's that. It looks like (and I may be off on the proper name for the component, it's been awhile) a small step down transformer went ka-boom, and the caps in line suffered. The PCB looks a little burned, but the paths are all just fine, and overall, it looks alright. My brother already tried replacing the PSU, just in case, so, when this gets fixed, that should also fix that issue if it was the cause.
I'll see if I can find diameters, but I don't think...

Replacements for old Cap series?
I am fixing my brother's mobo, and pulled out some blown electrolytic Al caps, but the series that they're from is discontinued. Can anyone recommend some similar replacement caps? Thanks for looking.
