The clean BIOS you used in post 52 can't be modified with my provided serial, snid, etc.?...

I thought BIOS_1.17_GH5XG.FD was the most recent BIOS backup. If it's not, how do I dump the BIOS w/o a EEPROM programmer? I never realized how locked down UEFI now is. I apologize for my noobness, but the BIOS FAQ is confusing as hell.

Can you point me toward dumping tools available for Windows 10 64? FreeDOS is a lost cause.

That's not the original BIOS? The .FD file contained in the zip archive?

Or do you mean the bios contained in %temp% when you trigger the Insyde updater?

I can post that part here....

The backup BIOS and new version needed for my laptop are contained in the same single .zip file above.

Here's the info I needed added:

    System Manufacturer: Acer
    Product Name: Nitro AN515-57
    BIOS Version: V1.19

    Product Serial Number: NHQEMAA0042380114B3400

    SNID: 23800442734
    UUID:
    {E10C579A-BB34-ED11-80E7-088FC3787614}

    Mainboard Serial#: NBQEM1100223791B6E3400

Unfortunately, all the DMI tools provided require DOS. This Acer Nitro 5 AN515-57 UEFI seems to block any 32-Bit (or lower) OS installations.

I tried NTDVM x64. It will load the programs in CMD, but fails to find the DMI structure table. FreeDOS won't load or get recognized. Windows 10 x86 gives a USB error immediately during or after POST. I hoped NTDVM on a 32 bit system would yield better results, but no dice.

Is flashing the BIOS EEPROM even possible through Windows 10 x64 tools? Or am I screwed...

    Hi HOACA388!

Here are my BIOS copies. I found v.1.17 in my Windows folder. The second is a copy from Acer. I DM'ed the Serial, SNID, and other information.

Without FreeDOS, is it possible to flash the EEPROM through Windows? Perhaps with tools similar to enabling the "hidden features"? Perhaps in a similar way to the "Acer BIOS Unlocker" tools offered here:

Tried that. Microsoft refused to transfer the licenses. If FreeDOS won't work, can I still flash EEPROM with the correct serial, snid, and UUID through software?

I don't want to risk hardware modification. I don't have the tools or skill for it....

  • Acer Nitro 5 Serial Restoration

Hello! I have a repaired Acer Nitro 5 AN515-57-51RC that recently returned from Acer. Unfortunately, the serial number, SNID, and Device Idea aren't the same.

I'd like to edit the BIOS back to my original numbers. Mainly to access my paid Windows 10 Pro and Office Product keys. I've seen the Acer tools to edit the BIOS, but this laptop will not boot from a Rufus created FreeDOS USB drive. I entered the BIOS, set the password so I could disable fast boot, enable the boot menu, and a few other recommended settings. Still won't boot from the FreeDOS USB drive. I've attached screenshots...

I don't have the BIOS file for the original. Just the numbers/IDs copied. I can probably find a bin of the BIOS if that helps.

  • Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

Hello, my name is Josh. I'm 39 and reside in Newark. I've found this forum looking to learn more about BIOS settings, recovering BRIC'd devices, and search tutorials to learn more about soldering.

I love retro gaming, with the 16-32 bit era being my favorite.

    Looking forward to the conversation!

Are their guides to setting up DOS Recovery USB Sticks? The image I make in Rufus doesn't show in the boot manager.
