  • Re: Hanns-G HG281D, LCD Monitor no power

You should be able to follow the 5v standby voltage to one of the smaller caps in the center part of your power supply (where C114 is). It was one I had to replace when my hannsg was dead several months ago, but I was at least getting a lit front LED. Beings I still use the monitor on my main pc here, I'd rather not take it apart to trace which cap the 5vdc standby goes to, but if memory serves right, it's the lower 3 on your picture in the center there where C114 is. Is the cap beside C707 swollen? Sort of looks like it.

Your welcome! Assuming you have a soldering gun, pick up some solder wick, very helpful for pulling parts. A solder sucker works also, but personally, I find it not as good as solder wick, but that's a personal thing. Cost about $3-$4 at the shack, but I recently got lucky and picked up 6 rolls from a mom and pop store for $6 total. Plan to get more since I use a ton of it and at a $1 a pop, I should buy them out, hehe....

It's a long thread, but start from the beginning like I did and you should find the answers (with pics even). Generally, the capacitors on the output side of the power supply go bad and in my case it was those and a cap on the 5v stand-by line as well. Again, read the whole thread, yes lots of stuff to read, but I am sure you will have that thing fixed pretty quick as long as you have access to parts. Oh, just cause you can't see any visible damage, doesn't mean the caps are good. I think most of us have run into that with these...

Does anyone have a list of "all" the electrolytic capacitors with corresponding board numbers for both versions of these monitors? I'd be willing to re-open mine to get the info if it helps anyone.

Outside of it looking rather dark, I got it to work. Ended up touching up all the pins on that huge IC in the middle of the HDMI/VGA board, then I did more clean up on some solder joints that looked bad on the power supply plus fixed some bad traces, then I took the board at the very top of the LCD and redid solder joints here and there and too my surprise it's working, BUT, I OWE IT ALL TO THIS GREAT WEBSITE FOR ALL OF ITS SUPER AWESOME INFORMATION!!!

Fixed my power supply issue using this site, THANK YOU to everyone who posted! Now it seems the logic board is not working despite replacing several of the electrolytics on the the logic board (granted used ones, but it didn't make it worse or better). Monitor turns on and stays on, but it will flash a solid red image every 3/4 of a second if set to 1920x1080, other resolutions will either go blank (most likely cause the monitor does not support them), and for other resolutions the screen will flash slower or faster, but still remains a solid...
