  • Re: Kenwood DNX6990HD service manual needed

I understand the GPS card can take a reflow and fix a red power with no display. 240C at 80s to reflow lead free solder.

I need that uploader! can you repost the link? Mine lost a bunch of icons (image not found) and I think a reload would fill in all those pesky "image not found" placeholders. As for the voltage, I was running it off a UPS battery 12.2V and it was very laggy. Im wondering if the 13+ voltage is really needed as it sure works better off a fresh charge than a 11.8V reading. My test batteries are old so they work for about an hour before the thing starts to boot loop at 11.5V. I have a 690 on the way with a no power...

  • Re: Onkyo TX-NR609 New DSP chip fitted

Yes, these boards are 100% automated on the assembly line. You can't just drop a chip on a presoldered board and have it reflowed without affecting all the other components without heat shielding and very precise temperature control. Plus these replacement chips come without solder balls (at least the one I bought) so that is another hurdle just to re-ball them, then you have to reflow them! Enough to make you pull your hair out. I resorted to manually placing the balls on the fluxed pads, all 256 (or whatever the count is them) then watched...

I gave up on mine after I bought a ball grid template and the solder balls. Never could get the solder to set and get the template off! Bought a net enabled Sony used for cheap. Nasty GUI interface but it works and bluetooth gets more use than net play.

  • Re: LG 55LM7600 Tv won't turn on

    UPDATE
Replaced the 5A slow blow fuse, replaced the 221K capacitor, checked all the diodes and plugged it in. The lower 3 pin MOSFET(?) on the small heatsink quickly burned to a crisp. New $35 power board time..and I dont even know if the screen is any good. I guess Ill work an hour of OT this week to cover that.

221K 220pf cap blown, shows 4040ohm with a big black burn hole in the middle. Diode tests OK. Dont have backlight tester. Where is backlight voltage pins or what pin voltage is backlight?

  • Re: LG 55LM7600 Tv won't turn on

Here is the EAY62512802 board with fuse at bottom corner. If the diode and cap were shorted, would that explain the 22V I saw on the board with the fuse testing open, and maybe the new fuse popping (although the 12A ceramic never blew, the solder joint did)??...

  • Re: LG 55LM7600 Tv won't turn on

Just scored one from the curb. 3 flashes of led and that's all I got. Took power supply board out and checked voltages. Seemed like I got 22V on all the primary side caps, and no standby voltage? Tested voltage across the T5A H 250V fuse and got 97V on one side and 24V on the other? tested open on my VOM. Installed a 12A ceramic fuse with some solder and the board blew the solder connections right off, sounded like a firecracker! So Im wondering if the board is completely toast now or if the 5A fuse just needs the proper solder job (socketed ends...

can you access via JTAG without chip in place/functional? I have both DSP and HDMI chips off board and need to find if the onboard firmware is corrupt. USB and upgrade were grayed out when chips were onboard as well as speaker matrix display.

  • Re: Onkyo TX-NR616 won't stay powered on

Got a 609 cheap. Video and sound only in DIRECT mode, gray net and upgrade. Will reflow the DSP chip and add heat sink. Waiting for thermocouple so I can heat chip to reball specs. Don't want to cook it. BTW, I picked up a clean Sony STR-DN840 for $60 w/remote locally, everything works! I have had good luck with Sony, just cracked solder joints on amp boards, easy to ID and fix.

My receiver has no serial number, It looks like it was peeled off, probably a big red flag as to not having it repaired for free? DSP issues? No net (grayed out) no USB init, I do get DIRECT sound (only) from FM, and I do get audio/video as well as pass through via front HDMI port. No speaker icons.

  • Re: Toshiba Satellite - Locks up when plugged in

That would be great if you could test continuity between center neg and outer pos with and without the cpu installed. I read that you may see 5 ohm across if cpu is installed but isolated without. Looking forward to your findings.

Cool, i read the entire 23 pages but didnt see anything about the continuity. Smt's will get tried next...anyone in usa got a few spares to sell me?

  • Re: Toshiba Satellite - Locks up when plugged in

I think i stuffed mine. I installed 4 360 caps across the stripe but i used regular cylindrical caps instead on a whim (already replaced with a cheap A105) and i got jack. Power but no backlight, but i did get fan but no heat off of cpu. Another thing i noticed whih doesnt sound right is i now have continuity across all terminals prior to cap install. I thought a while ago i tested them and found they were isolated? I used a large iron and solder wick to remove 99 of the old solder looking for a bridge but i didnt see any even under...

  • Re: Toshiba Satellite - Locks up when plugged in

Well, finally got my OE128's from China, got 2 for $3US shipped, not bad but it took 24 days to get here. Anyway, I attempted to solder the chip back on by tinning the backside and heating the edges of the solder pads but it wouldnt stick, so I reflowed it with a heat gun, blistering the top slightly in the process. But it has been working flawlessly for 2 weeks now. I can boot under battery or A/C or even change in the middle of the boot process, no change. My old battery now shows an X indicating the battery needs to be replaced,...

  • Re: Toshiba Satellite - Locks up when plugged in

Taxman, I dont believe that reset is applicable to the problem we are experiencing, but it sure works on Digital Cameras...Our issue is the power difference between the battery and the A/C transformer feed, it should be the same or at least be switcheable without issue. This capacitor is the common issue. My caps didnt come today so it will be Sunday before I can post my OE128 install results.

  • Re: Toshiba Satellite - Locks up when plugged in

What was the total amount of capacitance you installed (in uf) Im getting 2 OE128's in the mail hopefully today but would have installed what I had but it was only about 800, thought you needed 1200? The center strips are common(-) so you can do what he did and criss-cross the caps from side to side if that helps. still try ing to figure out how Ill mount the new OE128, reflow ( and melt the chip) or solder just at the edges...? Ill post back.

MicroFarads in Torrance does seem to be the least expensive, and based in USA. Too bad they have a $15 minimum order. Ill let you all know how my OE128 install with a soldering iron works. I cant believe in the NEC datasheet, they give the OE128 a 1000hr life? Thats like <6 months @ 6hrs/day! :-O

Unless you want to relegate it to a desk job with a permanent power supply of 10.5V @ 4A running into a hacked battery pack. I'm not that knowledgeable on electronics to steer you in any other direction.

The caps in the "ring" are where the OE128 is usually located, although it is usually square.
In your case, the trouble may be elsewhere? Shame its not a $1.60 NEC/TOKIN OE128, even if they last only 3 months after replacing, they are cheap.
