Re: Powered Speaker Hum When Plugged In
Try a different outlet, I had a powered sub do the same exact thing when plugged in to this 1 certain outlet, but when it was plugged in any place else it wouldn't hum at all. A year later it developed a heartbeat they the subwoofer when it was on or off, didn't matter but it always played sound. In order to stop the heart beat sound I had to replace 2 caps. So it's possible those 2 caps were starting to fail when it would him plugged in to that certain outlet in my home.. so maybe replace the caps on the amplifier.. it cost me about $2 to...

Sony is known for crap solder joints in the amplifier section, reflow all the joints on the transisters and on all the bigger components and see if that fixes your problem.. I love Sony home theater receivers and car stereos, I think they sound better than most, but every Sony receiver I've owned I've had to reflow solder joints. They become cracked and the symptoms are pretty much what your describing

Prolly bad transistor on that channel, my pa660 has issues with that same channel. Since it was new it would sound shorted with the car was cold in winter, bumps in the road would affect it also, but after warning up it would work fine for years that way. But now that channel sounds like it's shorting out, no bass, no volume compared to the other 3 channels.. its been running this way for a few months and hasn't gone into protection mode at all, one of these days I'm going to pull it out of the car and see what I see with a scope, busy...
