OK.
It's just that I was thinking what would happen if you had a battery with a locked BMS or with a blown fuse, and, instead of bridging it, you put a regular 4S BMS (without comms) in parallel with the original. So the laptop communicates status with the original BMS while receiving power through the parallel BMS. But I understand that most, if not all, will refuse to enable charging....

A question.
If laptop battery BMS is locked (there is not output voltage), and you bridge, force, output voltage (I know, it is not recommended and it is dangerous, this a theoretical question), would the laptop charge the battery?
Or put another way. If the battery BMS, through communications, tells the laptop that it is locked, would the laptop enable voltage for charging?Leave a comment:

First I flashed an image published in this thread from another laptop. ME had problems but Serial Number was preserved. So, is Serial Number outside of the BIOS, somewhere in mainboard?

Ah OK, sorry. You were referring to the hardware programmer. CH431A Asprogrammer again.
It's just that I was trying to avoid disassembling the laptop again and inserting the clamp. I thought that now that the laptop starts up I could do it from Operating System....Leave a comment:

What programmer do you use?
I tried with Intel FPTW64.exe and it says BIOS is locked.
I tried with AFUDOS from a bootable USB and it says BIOS not recognized.

This is a normal X380 yoga bios for comparison
I have tried to install ME Firmware from Lenovo in windows but it gives this error:

Finally I downloaded to BIOS a image published in this forum for X380 Yoga.
It works!!!
However, something annoying happens. The laptop takes 30 seconds, with a black screen, until it starts to boot and the Lenovo logo appears on screen. It also takes 15 seconds to resume from suspend.
I have been upgrading and downgrading several bios versions through lenovo repository. I have reset the bios to default, I have tried changing many parameters (quick boot, lan boot,...). I have done all the diagnostic...Leave a comment:

Hi . Finally I have CH431A.
I have a X380 yoga mainboard (DTZS1 LA-F421P). I don't know if it is password locked. It starts, nothing in display and then it sounds a melody. (According to the Lenovo acoustic identification app, the error is: 0285: TCG-compliant functionality-related error (might be the TPM initialization failure), I have seen it is frequently related to bios upgrade problems

Do you think it would be a viable idea to buy a cheap 4S BMS 20A board, 2$ in Aliexpress, and solder its connections to the existing BMS?
It would be like a bridge VP to Out + but keeping safety. And the original BMS establishs the required comms. The question is, can the original BMS, through comms with the computer, inhibit the charge and discharge from the mainboard side?
I use Linux and, although battery is dead for charge and discharge, I can see its voltage. And BIOS needs to acknowledge...Leave a comment:

When I disassembled it the cell voltages were:
c1: 0.41V
c2: 1.82V
c3: 2.47V
c4: 1.91V
The first one was very very low. However it was charging fine for hours with 0.5A. Then I charged the rest of them and they are balanced at 3.8V +- 0.04V tolerance.
It seems clear that there were reasons for a BMS lock.
