Re: Olevia 337-B11 Only turns on when it feels like it
Here are all the caps on the primary side:
470uf 35v
22uf 50v (5x)
47uf 50v
4.7uf 50v
150uf 450v
One unknown, they put this stupid hard glue right over the numbers, but based on the size and location I figure it is 47uf 50v.
All are Lelon RXW series caps, except the big kahuna which is a Nippon Chemi Con KMQ

Re: Olevia 337-B11 Only turns on when it feels like it
Got the new caps in, still having the same issue. I only replaced the caps on the secondary side; I've been told those are the ones under the most stress. Would it be worthwhile to replace the primary side ones, or should I be looking elsewhere?
Retiredcaps: I checked the voltage, there are no descriptions of the pinouts, so I'm guessing here. What looks like the 12v line only has 8 volts when the tv won't turn on. Standby line does go low though, it drops from 5v to 3.5v.
I also have the original...

Re: Olevia 337-B11 Only turns on when it feels like it
I actually read that thread! As I mentioned, the TV was previously fitted with a new power supply, so it is entirely possible that a substitute was installed. I do have the original power supply, it has burned mosfets on it. May need to fix that up....

Re: Olevia 337-B11 Only turns on when it feels like it
Welp, looks like most caps are out of spec or very close to the line. Digikey time. Thanks a ton for that datasheet!
As for the mystery cap: the glue is this awful awful white crap that is super hard and takes most of the capacitor label off with it. I don't think I'll be reading that cap.

Re: Olevia 337-B11 Only turns on when it feels like it
Ok, I was thinking recapping was in order, now I'm definitely on board for that!
The capacitors are all Lelon RXW, except one Elite EL series.
I do have a problem identifying one capacitor, they put the friggin glue right over the value and voltage. If you look at the left side of the power supply, there are 2 heat sinks. Below the lower one, there are 2 smaller capacitors to the left of a bigger one. The little one on the left is the culprit. Is it safe to assume that is cap would have the same...

Re: Olevia 337-B11 Only turns on when it feels like it
No hair dryer, and it hasn't failed yet today to check voltages. I pulled the power supply out and used and ESR meter on all the caps on the secondary side; all of them appear to be good (none over 1 ohm except a 22uf which read 1.9 ohms). Some of the caps did seem to take a bit to 'settle' on a number, is this indicative of a problem? Also, do I need to worry about the primary side capacitors? I tried to measure one and it bounced all over the place for a good couple of seconds, longer than any on the secondary. Not sure if...

I am interested in doing this to a monitor. Can you post details on where you purchased your supplies, and maybe a schematic for driving the LEDS?

Olevia 337-B11 Only turns on when it feels like it
Got another puzzler here. The patient is an Olevia 37 inch LCD TV, model 337-B11. The previous owner told me he had the power supply replaced, it worked for a while then would not turn on.
Get it home, it works perfect. Great picture, no problems. It worked all night, watched a few movies. Turn it on the next day, nothing. No picture, no sound. On Olevia TVs, the power light is on when the TV is off, and off when the TV is on.The behavior of the power light indicates the TV is turning on, the light turns off when I press the power button from standby.
If I...

Re: Philips 32PFL5322D/37 power supply repair
Finally getting back to this, had some 'life events' so didn't work on the tv for a while. I bought and built the 'Blue ESR' meter a while back, used that to test the capacitors on the power supply, all looked good. Put the supply back in the TV, and...immediate 8 blinks, doesn't even turn on the backlights.
Sigh...back to square 1.

Re: Philips 32PFL5322D/37 power supply repair
I don't have a schematic, so I don't have any values to compare against.
Looking at the bottom side of the supply, it looks like they worked only on the primary side, and the seller did tell me he couldn't get any voltage on the secondary side.
I'm guessing he started at the bridge rectifier, which was replaced, and then worked his way up, replaced two diodes and a blown resistor, and couldn't get it to work.
[Recap here, not necessary if you are in the loop on the thread]

Bump. Could this be a bad capacitor issue?

I already have the service manual, it doesn't have a schematic for the power supply, unless a new one has been uploaded in the last month or so.

It's a Philips EJ3.OU LA chassis.

Re: Philips 32PFL5322D/37 power supply repair
By SCH do you mean a schematic? If so, no. No one has posted one, and I can't find one. The service manual only lists the pin outs for the power supply.
I've been 'bench testing' it by taking the 13 pin connector off the main board, plugging it into the power supply with a 3.3kohm resistor between pin 11 (power on) and pin 6 (ground). I don't have any loads on the supply as of now....

Re: Philips 32PFL5322D/37 power supply repair
Yes, I still get 5v standby.
Just went and turned it on after it sat since my last message (20 minutes). First time on, all rails had voltage on them. Turned off power, waited a about 30 seconds, turned it back on, voltages are no longer present, except for 5v, which always is working....

Re: Philips 32PFL5322D/37 power supply repair
This has to be a bad joke or something...
Got the bridge connections all cleaned up, put it back in the TV. It ran a bit longer this time, about 20 minutes or so, long enough for me to program a universal remote and set up the channel list. Then it turns off, starts blinking good old 8 blink error code.
Take the power supply out, reconnect my turn-on resistor, and check the outputs. There is 25.5V on the 24v rail, but the other outputs they are at 0V. Now I know from my previous experience...

Re: Philips 32PFL5322D/37 power supply repair
After looking over the board, it looks like everything is intact. Aside from a nice scorch mark under the bridge rectifier, everything looks good. No shorted mosfets, no blown diodes, etc.
Under the bridge rectifier is another story. It isn't shorted out, but between one of the AC legs and the + leg there was a nice burn. I think it arced between those two and that's what tripped off the fuse.
Now a few pages back I mentioned how I was getting some burning that was between those same two leads. Before I just...Last edited by rpgruss; 03-01-2012, 04:33 PM.

Re: Philips 32PFL5322D/37 power supply repair
It doesn't work!
Well to be more precise, it worked for about 10 minutes. I saw a bright spark, then the fuse blew. Gah! I'll post back after I get the supply out and look at it.

Re: Philips 32PFL5322D/37 power supply repair
budm: I checked the MOSFET that is mounted right next to the IC, and it tests good. Also checked the surface mount diodes and they all appear to be working properly.
Mr Bill: Thanks for the update! Guess it was another wonderful non standard coding.
The IC is on order, should be here Thursday as I hit the digikey cutoff time and I already have the shipped notification.
