• Re: LG 1718S-BN no video

Thanks for the help. At least I know what the problem is.

Don't think it will be worth repairing. The lamps I will have to get via international shipping which will work out expensive and it doesn't look too easy. They look really easy to break which will take me back to step 1.

Will see if I can donate the parts to someone locally and buy a new monitor. Or maybe keep a working ccfl for any future lcd repairs/testing

Again thanks for the help.

I see what you mean about delicate work
I got it opened up and one of the ends of the CCFL is blackened. ...

Ahh - thanks for the explanation. Makes sense.

Getting somewhere now. By plugging in 3 ccfl's and using one from a good LCD I found one of them is giving the problem.
With No 2,3,4 and one connected from another LCD the picture displays perfectly.

I guess it means no. 1 is shot. Is it worth trying to source another ccfl or is the monitor ready for the dump?

Ok - before I blow myself up I just want to clarify this.

The suspect monitor has 4 plugs going to the CCFL's on the screen. Your saying disconnect one of the them and plug a CCFL from another LCD its place? Can it be anyone or the connectors? There's no particular order is there? Do I just do one at a time?

I clearly don't understand the process as how can a CCFL in another LCD help - the picture will still be displayed on the suspect LCD correct?

I think I need to go and read up on CCFL's before I attempt...

I've scraped off the glue - all looks fine.

Measured both points - they measure 460R.

Funnily enough I have another LG (slightly bigger - 22") which is in pieces as I'm waiting for low ESR caps to arrive for it....

LG 1718S-BN no video

I'm trying to repair a LG LCD 1718S which has the followiong symptoms.

When you power it on the green light comes on so there is power to the board. 9 out of 10 times when you power it on you get the 2 seconds to death syndrome. Only its more like 0.5 seconds. The other time the picture is visible but disappears 10 seconds later. When it goes black however if I shine a torch on the LCD I dont see the pic. I've also had a look for bulging caps and all the caps look perfect (except for the ones covered in the white paste - can't see the tops) so I'm not sure if its a cap problem...

• Re: Viewsonic vx2235 with bad caps

Thanks for the link. Only getting to this now.

I've checked the transformers. I think they're the transformers. I'm getting completely different readings as mentioned in the link. I've attached pics of the transformers. They are the transformers I'm supposed to measure right?

I get the following:

Pin:
8 9 10 11

1 2 3 4 5 6 7

Pin 1-8 1Mohm
Pin 3-6 1Mohm

All the other pins are open. I've desoldered the transformers and measured both....

When I switch the monitor on it flashes on and off for a fraction of a second and I can briefly see the correct grahpics on the screen. Then all goes dark.

IC200 is a 20 pin chip:
OZ964GN

I've also had a look at the service manuals - The manufacturing date on the monitor is Sept 2006 so I think the vx2235wm-1 is the closest with a date of Aug 2006 however I can't seem to see the inverter circuit on the -1 pdf.

From the silkscreen I can make out the following:
gnd
5v
13.8
...

Both chips give the same readings. I've also checked the diode across D/S - its open the way one and .5 the other.

• Re: Viewsonic vx2235 with bad caps

I've replaced all the caps and checked the fuse - still no luck.

I"ve also checked the voltages on the 2 x 8 way plug

First row on pins:
0
0
3.1
5
0
4.6
0
0

2nd Row:
2.6
0
0
5
14.2
4.5
0
0

Anything else I can check?

Thanks for the tips - I've not replaced all the caps. I'll try that and provide feedback with the measured voltages.

I've replaced the bad caps with Rubycon YXF caps and the problem still persists

Its got all the symptoms of the bad caps problem - if I shine a light on the monitor I can see the image faintly....

• Viewsonic vx2235 with bad caps

I've got a faulty Viewsonic VX2235 with the classic bulging caps problem. From some of the posts I've read guys have replaced the same 2 cap's that I have bulging and its sorted out their problem.

I've replaced the caps and it still has the same symptoms.

Faulty caps:
Capxon
1000uF 25V
105C
P630
VENT

I've replaced them with:
JWCO
1000uF 25V
105C
VENT

From further reading up I've now learnt a cap is not a cap and if it doesn't have the right ESR it will never won't work....

• Re: Cheaper ESR meter

I've build the ESR meter from here and can't seem to get it to work. I would appreciate a few pointers.

IC1A is generating a square wave. The collector is TR1 is shown here

and the collector of TR2 is here

If I short the cap out the RED should come on but it doesn't. The pins 5 and 6 of IC1 are both 0V
