Can Bad Caps Show Up As A Bad Ram Stick Problem???
I just recapped a netvista motherboard..
before the recap, I put in 2 sticks of compatible ram, but the screen would freeze...
i took one stick out and tried them one at a time in each socket and isolated what I thought was the bad stick...
once i finished the recap, i tried each stick individually again and they both run fine...
i used memtest86 and prime95 and ran both tests for 24 hours each and came up with no errors....
if i have a good cap and a questionable cap of the same values, do they need to be from the same manufacturer to do a proper comparison to find if the questionable one is bad??
also, is there any way or formula, besides 10 years of experience, to find the proper esr value from the other values on the data sheet??
i must have looked at at least 100 data sheets from about 10 different manufacturers in the past hour and not one of them listed an esr value...
thanks...
(p.s. - i just got my "blue" esr meter today, thanks bob)
How Many Caps Should Be Replaced On The Average Motherboard??
i have read many posts on here that say replace all the caps on the motherboard, but i have read just as many that say that just a few caps have been replaced....
i was wondering if there was any sort of standard, like only replace the power caps, or only replace the ones above a certain value, or for a particular circuit....
Re: Dell OptiPlex GX270 - multiple bad cap failures
I called them and unfortunately they could not help me because i bought my 3 systems at a police auction and I did not have the original owner information which they require....
as far as i'm concerned, the system tag number and board tag number should be all that is needed, but that's just me....
hello all, i would like to thank everyone for the information in this thread. it helped me fix one of the two problems that i have with this monitor (w1700).
problem one was the screen going black for a second or two at a time for a few months until it finally went black completely.
i replaced the caps and fuses on the inverter board, but the display only powered up for a second and then shut off. i figured that i screwed something up, so i ordered a new inverter board. when i installed it, the same problem still existed, so...
