Ah well sorry harvey i thought i put that in my original post. But yes the drive works fine in other computers. And Shadow i have cleared my cmos (used the jumper).
Alright and now the drive has stopped recognizing audio CD's. So now im down to the drive only recognizing programs discs. So anymore thoughts.

Ahhh ok i will give it a shot and get back to you. I have to get ahold of a buddy thought so it might take me a min or two. Just curious if ive ruled out the possibility of the drive itself being bad what else am i looking at when it comes to hardware failure. Also would it be fixable. And would the bios fault be fixable if it turns out that would be the problem. thanks

You know every forum ive been in seems like people are so up on jumping on the DRIVE IS BAD wagon. As i mentioned in my post before.... Drive works perfectly fine on another computer. Meaning no issues no problems ready and writes all media types........

Nope the other drive i have is a cd-rw drive and it works fine after the re capping and fresh install. And this drive works great aside from the dvd part of it. I thought it might have been the IDE cont. also but assumed that i would be having problems with all types of media and not just one. But then again i could be wrong ive heard of electronics being picky!!

  • Caps replaced, still a problem!?

So 14 caps got replace on my Gigabyte Ga-7DXR mobo. The comp is working wonderfully better than it did when i got it. Replacing them solved a lot of my issues with stop errors program crashes and so forth. There was also one other problem i was having that i blamed on the caps. And that was my Optical drives not working. In particular The newsest one i have a Sony DRU-830A. Ok so heres the deal. The drive recognizes when Audio CD's or program disc not on a dvd cd. So here is my major problem this drive supports everykind of dvd data there is from +r, -r, +rw, -rw, +r dl, -R dl, -ram, plus all...

  • Re: I got bad CAPS!

No bad caps in PSU. So just on the board all the other caps on the board are 440uf or below.

  • Re: I think i found some caps

Oh looking around on Mouser.com i found something else Nichicon makes a 6.3v 1200uf in the PW series specs.
    UPW0J122MPD6 : 1200uf : 0.068Impedence : 1050ripple mA rms: 10D x 16L compared to the one i mentioned in the first post
    UPW0J152MPD : 1500uf : 0.052Impedence : 1220ripple mA rms : 10D x 20L
The 1200uf is 3mm shorter than the ones i have on the board. Lead spacing is same on both. Just thought i would through a bit more info at you guys.

  • I think i found some caps

Hi guys I promised some pics of my MOBO. So here they are. I put the bad cap back into my comp and put the basics in it so i can post pics and do my order from my home. The ones in the board are 1200uf 6.3v choyo caps a total of 10 of them. the ones i want to get are nichicon 1500uf 6.3v. part # UPW0J152MPD
Everything is same except for UF value but was told i can bump that up a little and it will not affect anything. Nichicon makes another #UPM0J122MPD but there is a 91 day lead time on it and also a minimum order of 200 it matches exactly but i dont need that many. So what are your guys...

  • Re: I got bad CAPS!

Wow power supply huh well i guess i will need to get a list together of all the caps on my board and also open up my power supply. The caps are some funky manf.. like Choyo i think. And if i was at home and had my comp up and running i would have pics but since i have only one computer no pics sorry. I will see if i cant get a pic of the board and post it. At least so i can show you guys which caps have gone bad.

    I got bad CAPS!

Good to have found this site so thanks for making it anyway. I got a Gigabyte GA-7DXR that has 10 bad caps on it. I Found your site while looking for a place to buy this things and well honestly the sites are confusing for me. I can replace the things quite easily but im having a hard time finding the ones i need. The 10 that are bad are a 1200UF 6.3v caps. If anyone is familar with this MoBo they are the green ones that are right around the ECU. The black ones rated at 25v are not leaking or bubbling they still look brand new. So a favor to ask someone.... please help me find the caps i need....
