I recently picked up a Channel Master CM-7000 DTV converter box, which has an inactive S/PDIF coax output on the back. I'd like to try installing the missing circuitry to see if the output works, but I need a little help with the necessary component values.
Please see the attached photo. RA7 connects to the digital output from the decoder chip, and the lead going to RPR1 is the center conductor of the S/PDIF RCA jack.
Missing are 4 resistors, 3 capacitors, and 2 transistors. Using a DMM, I measured +1.65V @ RA7, +5V @ RD60, and +5V @ CD28/QD9. Any theories what the...

S/PDIF output circuit - help fill in the blanks

Re: I seriously don't understand gamers these days
If you're not changing hardware, you might not need to talk to support at all. MS allows unlimited internet reactivations on the same machine.
Software from other companies may work differently, of course. Securom activation (used in Bioshock, e.g.) does limit the number of reinstalls you can perform, even on the same machine. Even so, usually you can reinstall several times before running into problems.

Re: 2Wire 1701HG Gateway
1701HG power supply failures have been so common that 2Wire started replacing them for free: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r18312187-ATTYahoo-1701HG-power-supply-problem
As for the hack, it seems to work only if the router password is blank. It might explain why recent AT&T firmwares make a password mandatory.Re: 2Wire 1701HG Gateway<br /> <br ...-problem

Re: Thermal pads
Ditto on ordering thermal gap pads from DigiKey, even though they're pricey.
I made the mistake of trying to save cash by buying from Arctic Cooling. They sent me 3M 467MP adhesive pads (i.e. for mounting artwork, not transferring heat.) What frightens me is that I have one of Arctic's VGA cooling products in my PC, and I bet they used the same stuff on it.Re: Thermal pads

Re: Would upgraded caps keep my PSU in spec?
Yup, I ended up changing it out for a 500W FSP. I thought about going with Seasonic, but there isn't one that would fit my Dell case without cutting. I upgraded the caps in the Mad Dog and sent it to lab/bench duty - currently serving as life support for a laptop with dead AC adapter.

Re: Oh, schnapps! HD Crash.
Assuming it's not a hardware problem, I have seen cases where the filesystem gets corrupted in such a way that the system becomes unbootable. You could try booting into the recovery console using your Windows CD, then running chkdsk on the drive. Or put the drive into another system and run chkdsk from there. That's usually enough to get the system booting again.

Re: Would upgraded caps keep my PSU in spec?
I suppose that explains the fan setup. In addition to the 80mm at the back, there's a 92mm blowing down on the heatsinks. And when the PC is doing anything moderately demanding, the PSU is often pushing more air than the main system fan.

Re: Would upgraded caps keep my PSU in spec?
The PC has a 3.4GHz P4-EE, 1GB RAM, 120GB HD, DVD-RW, floppy, and a couple PCI cards. Old video card was a 6800GT and I moved to a 7950GT. So yeah, the P4 and video card are likely overloading the +12V.
I guess I've been lucky or not using this PSU long enough to run into problems. I think I'll replace it with a Forton AX500-PN - the price is right and the series seems to have a decent reputation.Re: Would upgraded caps keep my PSU in spec?

Re: Would upgraded caps keep my PSU in spec?
Let's see... attached to the secondary heatsink are two SBL3040PT and one F16C020C. Not sure I know what that means, though....

Re: Would upgraded caps keep my PSU in spec?
The label says the +12V is rated for 20A, which matches the video card mfg's recommendation. All of the caps in there are PCE-TUR, except for the unbranded bulk caps.

Would upgraded caps keep my PSU in spec?
I have this Mad Dog (SuperFlower) 350w, and I read it's a decent PSU albeit with mediocre caps. It's been fine so far, but once I added a new video card, the +12V goes out of spec under load - my DMM reads it dropping down to 11.25V.
Would upgrading the caps keep this PSU in spec, or am I just asking too much of it? Primaries are 560uF with no visible branding, and the only 16V cap I saw next to the outputs was a 1000uF PCE-TUR....

Re: Bad caps on XFX 79xx AGP cards?
Well, the store agreed to give me a refund and waive the restocking fee, so back it goes. Guess I have one more thing to look out for when shopping for video cards. Thanks for the help!

Re: Bad caps on XFX 79xx AGP cards?
Could these junk Evercons be so bad as to take out the board within a week? Or does such an early failure point to poor power design and/or other cheap components contributing?
This board lasted five days before going bad (flickering/fading as if losing power), though I saw no obvious signs of distress on the board. In other forums, I've seen two reports of cap explosions on these boards, both within the first month of operation.
Just trying to figure out if the thing is worth recapping or if it's just rubbish to...Last edited by dingo99; 07-15-2007, 12:16 PM.

Bad caps on XFX 79xx AGP cards?
The attached pic is from XFX's 7950GT AGP graphics card, but the same board is used for their 7900GS AGP model. The blue/gold electrolytics are Evercon, but any idea what the 470uf silver/black caps are? Markings on them are:
68
