• Help with my Panasonic 65" plasma

    Gentlemen,

I seem to be having a problem with my Panasonic Plasma, Model: TH65PZ850U.

There is a black bar in the lower left quadrant of the picture - but the image is affected in a box near it as well. See attached pictures the box is mostly dark but most of the time the color varies and is correct the odd time, but the black bar is always present.

Now would this be a problem with the y buffer board or something else? The problem just all of a sudden happened.

    Thanks...

    Just to update.

Looks like the PS is ok - the 12v line is being dragged down by the 'input module' where the HMDI cable plugs into the unit.

The unfortunate part with this you simply couldn't unplug the harness to check as the 5VDC power signal also runs through this harness. I had to isolate each of the power feed lines through a couple of boards from the PS to find the problem child.

Now the question comes along if I want to replace this board at $100.

    tom66 - thanks...

Thanks again for the quick reply.

I was reading up and did run across others talking about the "Seine" board - now I just went to try unplugging what I am thinking is this board (the HMDI input) and with the board unplugged the unit does nothing when plugged in. It would seem that the power signal passes though this board. Would have to figure out what to jumper.

I have pulled the PS out and will look over it the next few days and will report back on what I find (or lack of) as the problem seems to...

Thank you for the reply, I was doing some tests this morning and started unplugging various boards with no change in the result (which would have included the Y sus and Z sus boards - thanks for pointing those out as they don't seem to be labelled in the SM location pages).

I was also measuinr ghte voltages and the AC Detect line out of the PS has 3.45VDC on it and after reading your post confirms that this may be too low. Am I correct in assuming it should be 5VDC?

I tried a search on here for...

  • 42" Plasma Toshiba model:42DPC85

    Chassis TAC515

    Gentlemen,

Ok, I have a Toshiba plasma 42" model: 42DPC85 that will not turn on, the front panel LED blinks red.

Would appreciate any help with getting this unit going again. I have done TV repair in the past, now I am talking 25+ years ago and all this new stuff is, well new to me, so that makes me a newbie again.

When the unit is plugged in, a relay cycles on, panel LED is a constant red and then the relay turns off shortly after and the LED now blinks.

I do have a copy of the schematic, but unfortunatly...

Hi, thank you for your reply and this is what I have found:

    No pin marked VS ON.

The only voltages that I am reading on any of the pins (with the exception of the AC in) are:

    Pin marked 5V-1 = 5 volts
Pin marked AC Detect = 3.2 volts...

ok, an update. Installed the recommended caps and still no joy, however the power supply relays are acting a bit differently, they turn on and then after some time 1 turns off. If I unplug the top connector on the board to the left of the power supply, the power supply will remain turned on. Toshiba calls this board a LOWB and that connector is just +24v and ground.

So it would seem to me that the supply is ok and there is an issue someplace else causing the shut down, this is where I currently stand......

Ok, read through the info and that brings up another question, relating to the above posted capacitor 250uf 450v, the Capxon chart, doesn't go up to 450v. These 2 capacitors had an obvious bulge to them before they were changed - now it is quite possible that the ESR rating is higher that what was there originally, so now what? Do I just find a cap with a low ESR rating and install that, like this one: http://search.digikey.com/ca/en/products/ESMQ451VSN271MQ40S/565-2793-ND/758005

edit - on a side note,...

Ok, what would we be looking at for a min 'good' value then?

Example, would this be considered a 'good' cap for this supply, http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?WT.z_header=search_go&lang=en&site=ca&keywords=P11944-ND ? This is 1 that I used, will have to check the rest.

Is it, the higher the number the better?Re: Toshiba 42DPC85 will not power o...e considered a

    Buy lamps from?

Ok, I would seem that my seach skills are severely lacking as I can not seem to locate someone that sells lamps for monitors.

Or does everyone just collect used ones?

    Thanks,

ok, here is what I found:

    Z401 and Z601 are good
    surrounding resistors are good

Ok, now the unit does seem to power on, I do get Vss for a brief moment but then the power supply shuts down - obviously detecting a fault someplace.

    Any other suggestions?

edit: this is a plasma unit if that helps.

Thanks you for the info, will have a look in that area a bit later today and will post what I find (good or bad).

Replaced them all except for 2 of them that I didn't have on hand, but these seem to be in the 5v section which is working.

As for ESR - can't say for sure, most of the ones I order are from Digikey and most of the time they do not list a ESR rating, but have never had an issue with another tv I repaired or several monitors - but maybe I got lucky with those?...

  • Toshiba 42DPC85 will not power on

First, to say Hi - stumbled upon this site only just recently and it looks like it is a wealth of information (don't know how I didn't find is sooner).

And on to business, I have a Toshiba 42DPC85 plasma with a chassis TAC 515 that does not power on. Front panel led blinks and the relays cycle a few times.

Replaced the capacitors (some had the usual bulging) and still nothing. I get no VSS power off the power supply. Found the service manual online (couple of different sources) but it does not seems to have the power supply diagram in the ones I found. ...
