I will order a couple cd3217 and a hot air station, flux and paste. Looks like a tricky one for a first timer. I have soldered with an iron alot but not with hot air. I will practice and post when I have the cd3217 removed and check for short.

Hello everyone. This is my first post and I am hoping to learn from the experts that help out. My daughter had a HDMI dongle connected to the laptop and when she went to disconnect a static shock went through her and to the Usb port. The computer shut down and would not start. She took it to the authorized repair at London Drugs and they charged her $70 and told her the logic board would need to be replaced for $1000 +.

I removed the logic board and connected to Usb digital tester and it reads
5.17 volts
.48 amps
Stuck there and not going any further.

I joined the forum to learn about smd tricks and methods. My first task is to repair a logic board for my daughters A2159 Macbook Pro 821-00583-a. Our local Apple repair looked at it and said the logic board needs to be replaced for $1000.00 I am an electrician and Industrial Instrument Mechanic by trade so I believe with the right tools and support I can save some money and keep from filling the landfills
