  • Re: Vizio M550NV No picture, backlights work.

So, Viewing from the rear of the tv, disconnecting the left bottom cable on the tcon made the right side (viewing from the front) of the tv turn white., I admit I have nor scource hooked up at this point as this would take a little time. There is also a faint blue line to the extreme left of the picure viewing from front. I see no tv messages such as "no input" or similar....

Ill try that, this was going to be a winter project as Im swamped with my regular landlord job. I looked closely tonight with a magnifying glass and it seems the TCON board is a bit waxy, wet looking. In fact, some of the white labels are 1/2 saturated though I see no bad caps, none obvious anyway. I guess adj voltage regulators with the middle leg cut off is normal. I'll try the ribbon test tonight if time allows. Thanks guys. PS, I didnt know this tv was this old, power supply says 2002?

Somebody gave me a M550NV today that does this also, or similar. Turns on with remote, backlights work, has sound, but no picture. So I'll follow your post if you dont mind.

  • RCA MODEL P61960 Chassis PTK195Y06T

TV is completely dead after being unused for about a year. Was plugged in the entire time. Was always a quiet tv (projection) with no indicator lights. Very low hours, probably 100 at most. Has been exposed to smoke. Tried to turn it on and nothing. Usually was hard to hear start even when it worked.

Disconnected front panel buttons and tried remote, no start, no noise, basically like its unplugged. One glass fuse near power supply checks ok. Anyone in NW Indiana need it for parts or anyone else know what to check first, or a link to a service manual? Manufactured in Feb of 2002....

  • Re: Vizio VW42LFHDTV10...Brother Mikes TV...

This is the 3rd repair on my mother's Vizeo in total. I believe the main board was replaced under warranty. Somebody came out to the house and did that when I was not there. I think the tv was produced in 2007. I am very thankful to this forum, wish I could be of more help to others. My next project is to replace the draft inducer fan on her furnace but I believe that will be easier!

Yay! She is up and running once again! Thanks retiredcaps and tom66!

This time I removed the regulator by loosening the big leg first enabling me to get a "grab" on it, then quickly heating up the 3 pins. I destroyed the bad one, it broke apart on removal, too much heat from the iron I guess. I did not add any solder this time, simply held it in place and tapped the legs. It is a little crooked but the best I can do. The blue inverter light fired up and I knew it was good! Thanks again. If I had the patience...

    AMC1117 over F0734J

    1.48 (2.36 - 2.40 ) 5.2

Am using an old Krista Meter and the middle pin value seems to fluctuate.

I do have a replacement left from when I changed out the U33 I bought two. marked
    16AB over N03A from digikey

I guess that is a little low, should be 2.73 on Pin 2. You think that is enough to be bad?
    Thanks RetiredCaps

The Vizeo has died again. I dont think it's the same problem. This time the screen froze. Other syptoms are about the same except I dont see any inverter lights.

Got the parts in and purchased some flux, just got the old regulator off and to be honest, I'm taking a break. It was quite a chore and I want to clean up the mess I made. I would suggest getting some braid to "suck" the old solder off as it was dificult for me to heat up all 4 points and pry the old one out of the way, patience required to say the least. Interesting the board is labeled ADJ/OUT/IN . Turns out my old soldering iron was better then the new one from Radio Hut.....I'm getting ready to clean the board...

Thanks Guys, that 1st video was awesome. I stopped by a local tv shop in town where the owner had two vizio's opened up. He said he never repairs boards and went on to give his opinion on vizio and samsung tv's. In any case, I ordered the LM1117-adj from digi-key. I think they must have the nicest people on the planet working for them. I felt guilty ordering only a few items! Now to wait for the mail but better from MN then Hong Kong or China.

    Thanks Bill,

I will try and order several tonight. The only symptom I forgot to mention was while my mother was watching it she fell asleep and was woken by what she described as a terrible screaching or screaming noise and the screen was blue. She was then forced to unplug it. Rebooting the screen is no longer blue but with the lights off, a soft gray. The white lights that seem to be powered off the master and slave inverter are most definately on. The chips under a magnifying glass look ok on the inverters.

I had to go back and re-read some posts about measuring pin 1 2 3, so I hope I got this right, the U9 Pin 1 value seems odd, but here goes.

    U33 1.3 2.1 5.17

    U2 2.05 3.31 5.17

    U7 0.02 1.04 2.10

    U8 2.07 3.32 5.19

    U9 0.00 1.22 2.10

Hello, I am Paul, a new member. Have been reading the forums for a couple days. I am looking at my mothers VW42LHDTV10A with main board
    3642-0262-0150(3B)
    CSD:3642-0192-0395
She has been battling hemolytic anemia for several months and the tv has become much more important for entertainment. My soldering skills are not great but I have done some on larger Heathkit type projects. I am satisfied my power supply is ok and master inverter glows blue led for a couple seconds the same as my own vizio. Her tv was already...
