  • Re: Visio Main Board Repair

    I finally went out and bought a main board. After talking with several shops, these boards are hard to find. One shop hasn't seen one in over a year. There was one listed on the bay for a reasonable cost. I grabbed it. Anyway, I got the lights to work and menu showing. It appears to be the fix. The processor on the new board didn't get hot after 5 minutes or so like the other one did. Visio's to quote Budm: "is the armpit of t.v.s" Now to the next future project. Thanks all for the help. I'm still learning about these things and most likely...

    Talked with a reputable nationwide shop today, and a tech told me first thing he checks on the main is the crystal. Check it on both sides and they should be half of the standby. I guess if standby is 5v, then 2.5 on each side. Then the eprom next to the processor, and that should be 3.3. If they check out, he proceeds to the LDO's. Those were some of the components that are checked and I'm fairly certain not all of his procedures were not disclosed.

    Also, which I thought was interesting two kits were being sold on the bay with different...

    Also, the 12v fuse now is showing 12.2 as well as U8 voltage, whenever the stdby and ps-on is jumped. The 12v 18v and 24v are showing on the p.s. connector. The voltage on the p.s. heat shield was due to the fact the dmm was set to ac and not dc. So, that's out. It appears to be the mainboard. But cannot figure out was is the cause. V.R.s seem to check out. A guess is the Main I.C. is the culprit. It might best to buy another main board. There are 3 new VR #1117 maybe go ahead and switch out the other two, but they seem to be within spec. Any ideas would...

    Update: Replaced u4 and u6. Tv still not clicking or powering on. I am getting about 60v on the primary heat shield on the power supply. I was shocked by it. Hmm. I'll try to check the PS_on and stby thing first and then check voltages on the power supply as well as check voltages on the replaced LDO's. Ugh.

    I wanted to pass this on too. The easiest way to remove those voltage regulators I found was Bud's trick of cutting the legs. I didn't have any cutters around, so a pair of toe-nail clippers did very well. Then I wiggled the IC...

    ordered from Mousers 5 of the 1117's. Hopefully, they will be here Sat or Monday. They seem to get here faster than Digikey at the economy rate. Don't know why, but they do. Is there something else I should be testing while waiting for the LDO's?

    The VIZIO insignia. My bad. The U6 I just checked it is input: 6.9 output: 1.87 (middle pin) I would say U6 is bad. Most likely it needs to be replaced. and a good idea to replace the others. Thanks for the vref formula. I was wondering about that. I guess U4 should be around 2.35 adj: 1.1+1.25. U7 looks within range.

    The insignia turned white and no picture. Popped the cover and did a visual: caps looked good, no visible sign of damage or burn marks. Fuses checked out.

    While doing a visual, the t.v. made that clicking tripping sound, by itself, like it was just turned on, and with a long delay about 30 secs or so, the panel lit up! Then after 10 minutes it died. The readings off the power supply connector:

    5V standby= 5.5
    12V = 7.4
    PS_ON = 1.58
    24V = .650

    Main-board voltage regulators:

    The model number is XVT472sv. I will post pics and readings as soon as I can get the set here, looking at later on tonight.

    The only thing I know is the power button turns amber to white with no picture not sure on sound. Maybe that's a good place to start. I read where the power button color changes, blinks, etc can indicate a certain fault.

    Haven't had a chance to check anything yet. It's at another location for the time being. Will get hands on it tomorrow. Been reading pages and pages of threads on here that has pointed in that direction. Just wondering on how many people had success repairing the boards at the component level compared to the ones who simply replaced the board.

  • Visio Main Board Repair

    I was curious on the success rate of repairing the Visio's Main Board issues and what was done to correct the problem. There are a lot of detailed threads on troubleshooting, but most of them just replaced the board. Apparently this is a recurring issue with the Visio's. One member said that 90% of the Visio's he encountered were the main board. It also appears to be the voltage regulators are the culprits, but various other components can very well be faulty. Any thoughts?

    Re: Vizio XVT3sv

    Well, I decided not to get this one. Reading the Vizio XVT series threads, the main board is the likely candidate for replacement. FETS, Voltage regulators, EEPROMS and in one case an IC chip were bad. In most cases, they just replaced the board. I really don't want to invest in buying a main board along with the original purchase price of the TV right now with Christmas coming up.

    Anyway, just wanted to let you all know what my decision was. Thanks again.

    Vizio XVT3sv

    I'm thinking about buying this led TV 47". Before the decision is made, is there known issues with this series that some may have encountered? There's a chance it could be the main-board, by the information given to me: "No picture, but back lights work". There isn't much information out there or any known major problems with this series. There was some mention about the "transistors" perhaps, FETS or voltage regulators, going bad on the main board as well as a shorted fuse. Not sure if the fuse was on the P.S. or the main board. Or maybe it's a good idea to just stay...

  • Re: Dynex DX-46L150A11 backlight/inverter problem?

    Two ways to check it out. Perhaps, swap the bad bulb around with a good one. Check voltages after the inverter transformer, the hole on the white tracer. The pic looks like there's a spot for you to check with the meter. Watch out, high voltage. Also, check the 24v pin on the power supply connector to make sure you're getting 24v. In which it appears your are. If there is a blown bulb, just replace the one. It's could be blown from a shorted transformer or circuit while the others are fine. It appears to be the inverter board....

    Yea, thanks for the help. The problem is I've somewhat of an O.C.D. type who can't let it go until I figure it out. Most likely the majority of the ppl in here are the same way.

    I got maybe 20 bucks or so in it. And since I just got a 42 lcd fixed last month for my own use, this one just happened to pop up in the ads for free. I figured why not. I was hoping to get it fixed cheap so I can give the lcd to my daughter. It's just a matter of patience before one shows up again in the ads, but meanwhile the white straight jacket will go on. I'll...

    Put the surface mount mosfet in, and no go. No video noise just a black screen. I'm beginning to think it's a blown panel. What's puzzling is the y-sustain green led is not lit up. And the board is getting the right voltage, 206.7v. So, this was a freebie, I just want to chuck the entire tv. But as soon as I do....., So, it goes into storage for now until I have some more patience to make a decision to keep working on it, or toss it. I guess the first thing to do IS to see if the panel is bad. Here we go again.....later

    Got the ohter mosfet today, but a larger size soldering tip isn't here until monday. So we'll see then. I believe that one, smd mosfet is blown as well.

    I ordered the other surface mount Fet, B20nk50z. If that doesn't work, then I have to consider getting a different y-main board.
