Re: ID10T Error - Damaged PCB Pad Repair Deslodering Blown Capacitor
Hi Steve N.,
Thanks for your informative reply and vote of confidence.
So I can just bend the ground lead over the 4 little dots of solder and drop a single bead to solder it all together? If so, that seems simple enough!
Should I just forget about the little round copper contact that came off (I don't have epoxy).
I wonder, what are those 4 dots of solder there for anyway?
Thanks again,
Steve M.

ID10T Error - Damaged PCB Pad Repair Deslodering Blown Capacitor
Hello Badcaps,
I made a really goofy mistake last night and I'm kicking myself over it now...
Please see the two photos linked below:

http://i.imgur.com/kRni8fA.jpg
http://i.imgur.com/0PDk1hm.jpg
While trying to desolder a blown capacitor for my Samsung 58" TV (PN58A550S1FXZA), I damaged one of the PCB pads on the ground side where the capacitor gets soldered in.
The hole on the left cleared fairly easily after...Last edited by eltrkbrd; 08-29-2015, 07:57 AM.

WTB - Soldering Station
After checking through the forums here, I found a couple of decent threads on the subject but didn't want to hijack anybody else's thread or bring one back from the dead.
I'm new to soldering and just getting started, can anybody here recommend a good soldering station?
I'm interested in purchasing a Soldering Station for doing simple component level repairs like replacing bad capacitors.
For me it's mostly small electronics like audio equipment, laptop motherboards and components, etc.
I need a Soldering Iron with variable temperature control...Last edited by eltrkbrd; 11-23-2011, 01:39 PM.

How to test bad capacitor with digital multimeter?
Hi Guys,
Just a short introduction as I'm a new member here:
I recently purchased a really nice set of 120W powered bookshelf speakers and each on has a miniature computer and power supply built into them (each on separate PCB).
Well, it appears one of the caps is bad on the power supply. It is bulging and I noticed what could be a small amount of electrolyte leakage. I swapped the broken power supply out with a known working power supply from the other speaker and it works.
I noticed when I pushed down on the bulging cap it made a fizzle...
