There was an overvoltage in my area couple of weeks ago, but didn't notice anything damaged in thr house.
OK, so what's to be done? First check for burnt led...

You might be right, but i don't really think this is what caused the problem. The problem was that the screen was set on full brightness all the time and this made the led fail (probably burnt led).haven't got the suction cups to remove the screen and check...Leave a comment:

yes i did. nothing changed, and yes, like a brightness strobing effect. sometimes looks brighter . if you look down the holes in the chassis you can see the light "strobing"...Leave a comment:

Hi everyone.
I had to reopen this thread as now I've encountered another problem with the tv.
Basically the tv works but the brightness Is at its lowest possible and the screen flickers. I can see the image in the dark room but only then. I have tried to lower the brightness and also turned the automatic brightness off.
The things I've tested are:
-plugged of the pcb and start the tv, but still same issue
-started the tv without the led connected plugged in, same

Problem solved ! The tv has finally been repaired.
Solutions:
1: changed the main board , this way I went from having a permanent blue screen with sound to having image + sound but lines on screen.
2. Checked every single one of the capacitors and resistors on the bottom boards, no luck.
3. Covered the first 8 pins of the first part from the left side of the u ribbon, one by one until the total of 8 pins, no luck, i even went up to 15 pins, no change.

First two pics are from the left side of the tv as you look from the back ( right side front)
Last two are from the right side of the back( left side front)

I completely agree with you, but there's nothing else I can do but try things. So far, the only thing that worked was changing the MB, now I got back to having an image. I would also change the caps on the lower boards where the the flex ribbon connects, but honestly I don't see which caps are they or the name, so I can order some....Leave a comment:

I am afraid I have only removed the u ribbon from right side as I ran out of time to do so for the left side aswell

Update: before leaving home, I have managed to swap the main board and now I have the image back! Yeey ! So the main board was damaged. But I still get the lines. If I remove one of the u ribbon I get the following image.
I will have to try your method of masking the 8 subsequent pins tomorrow.
