• Re: ViewSonic VX1940w

Ha, well I'm not too bothered. Cause I don't need two screens. I can't really afford any tools to try and see if its working. I might try replace the caps I replaced before and give it another go?

Well I powered it on with the ends of the caps (the metal wire bits you should cut off) touching the metal backplate of the screen, as I didn't put the plastic bit in. So I powered it on and saw a big blue spark and nothing, so I probably fried it all.....

Thought I would update you guys on my situation..

I tried replacing the capacitors on my board, did so - turned it on and BOOM, fused everything. no blue ligbht on the screen - nothing. I think it's dead.

However, I went home over Christmas and tried replacing the capacitors on his power board, which had the same problem... And here I am, typing this message onto that very screen!

Thank you so much guys, you have saved me £80. Cannot say how thankful I am.

Ok, just checking. The 'strip' on the side of the capacitor indicidates negative (-), yeah? Its been the smaller wire on all the capacitors. Hoping this is right!

If I have, does this mean the whole things broken?

Could I easily take it out and put it back the right? I'll check soon....

The £16 worth of capacitors finally came, and I did a bit of soldering, puting the new ones in place.

SO I put the screen back together, plug in the kettle lead and boom! Blue spark and nothing..

Now I got no blue light or anything. Have I just blown it? What should I do now? Buy a new power board? Buy a new monitor?

Thanks, again!
I've gone for the following as its in multiples of 5, its quite costly. This means I ahvent got the two large capacitors, which were £1 each.

22uF 63V
http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/products/3150940/
220uF 35V

1000uF 16V
http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/products/5261266/

Someone in an earlier post said it would probably work if I only replaced these.Re: ViewSonic VX1940w

Due to my university studies, I don't really have time to go there within the next week.

I really need somewhere online where I can buy them.
They've got this: http://uk.rs-online.com/web/c/passives/capacitors/
But I'm not too sure what type of capacitors I need.Re: ViewSonic VX1940w<br /> <br /> ...> They've got...

Sorry, I'm in the UK; Cardiff. Phoned Farnell up, and they told me to go to Leeds. That's never going to happen. Would prefer an online seller, cause then I can check what I'm buying.

Bit of a disaster. Farnell has a minimum order charge of £20. So that's no good! Any other websites where I can order from?

Ok, so I'm about to order the ones I posted in my earlier post. Hopefully them and my solder iron will arrive tomorrow/Saturday!

Glad you've got your screen worknig supervinnie!

One question though, How do I take out the old (broken) capacitors?

Based on the image, I've added all 6 capacitors to my basket (Totalling £7.15!).. I hope they're the right ones:

Could you link me to one of the boards? I couldn't find any.

I've soldered before (I'm taking a computing degree!) but my solder & soldering iron is at home, not where I am at the moment. But if I could find the parts I would solder... Which ever is cheaper!...

OK, Guess I'll have to buy a soldering iron.

That site, uk.farnell.com doesn't have the resistors as far as I can tell!
I've tried searching C1, the part number and the individual factors. No results (http://uk.farnell.com/jsp/search/browse.jsp?N=203968+110069798+110183885&No=0&getResults=true&appliedparametrics=true&locale=en_UK&divisionLocale=en_UK&catalogId=&skipManufacturer=false&skipParametricAttributeId=&prevNValues=203968&mm=1000194||,1001880||,&filtersHidden=false&appliedHidden=false&autoApply=false&originalQueryURL=%2Fjsp%2Fsearch%2Fbrowse.jsp%3FN%3D203968%26No%3D0%26getResults%3Dtrue%26appliedparametrics%3Dtrue%26locale%3Den_UK%26divisionLocale%3Den_UK%26catalogId%3D%26skipManufacturer%3Dfalse%26skipParametricAttributeId%3D%26prevNValues%3D203968)...

OK, I took the other casing of, and took a few pictures. No idea what I'm really looking for. I've attached them this time, as badcaps is working again .

Also, I remember spilling a little bit of tea in it a few months ago. Dont think that would be the problem though, as other people have the same problem....

Good to know I'm not the only one with this issue. Seems we've got exactly the same problem. Just wondering, where was your noise coming from? For me it was the top left corner (if looking at it from the back).

How did you access the power board? Where it is?
