Eventually got it with e475. Kept trying and it worked when I entered 1234 on the patched bios. Let me go through hardware id and hitting spacebar twice.

I have an e475 (one of the AMD apu Thinkpads). The auto-patched bios took a new password, gave the ok arrow, and then went to a permanent a blank screen (no option to enter hardware id and then hit spacebar). Would appreciate any suggestions. Hello, Thinkpad bios modding led me to discover the forum. My first was whitelist removal for adding an atheros wifi card to a T41 for running *nix and that got me hooked.Leave a comment:
