  • Re: IMac G5 17" Checkerboard Graphics Problem

Yes, i have since found that its the GPU Chip that is the problem, i am new to Macs and have bought a couple as faulty so i can repair and maybe sell them, this one had already had the Caps replaced but the problem still persisted. With nothing to loose i tried reflowing the GPU but it didn't work

Thankfully i have found a replacement Logic Board on ebay and got it very cheap, just waiting for it to be delivered.

I will update this post once i have received and installed it.......

  • IMac G5 17" Checkerboard Graphics Problem

Hi all, i have a 17" IMac G5, i switch it on and it starts booting etc, but the screen has a checkerboard effect all over it. When it gets the desktop, all it displays is the mouse with a checkerboard over it as well, now you can move the mouse but nothing else i.e. no icons etc. When i try and boot from the O/S disc, all i get are the fans running at full speed and again a checkerboard screen. I understand that the Capacitors go on these IMacs, so i recapped the entire board but this didn't help at all, just the same problem

I know its not the screen itself, so the only...

  • Re: Is this normal on a Logic Board??

I think they did, Ive re-soldered the joints just to be sure but still no luck
Ive looked at the caps in the PSU and they look ok, the board is getting standby voltage, but it just wont start. Maybe i should recap it again??

I'm at a loss, any advice would be great

  • Is this normal on a Logic Board??

Can someone here please look at my pics of my IMac G5 20" Logic Board, i bought it to repair, and it has had capacitors replaced but will not power on or boot. There is only one LED lit and when you press the power button it just sounds like something is shorting out and the second LED Lights for a split second then nothing. Ive found something on the board that looks to me like a small piece of solder crossing some components it shouldn't, maybe its causing it to short out??

Please can someone check my pics and give me some pro advice. Thanks.

Sorry about the bad picture quality, im suspecting bad caps again maybe, but im no expert. Is there any other way i can test the psu? It also makes a split second sound when the power button is pressed, its a like an electrical spike, best way i can describe it

  • IMac G5 20" Logic Board, HELP!!

Hi all, i have just purchased a sold as faulty, IMac G5 20". It will not boot, but is getting getting power from the PSU because the first LED is lit, when i press the internal power button the second LED lights up momentary and the fans spin for a fraction of a second, then nothing. Now the seller stated it was working then started acting strange, so he opened it up and it had bad caps, so he replaced them, but his soldering skill where not so good, and it didn't help. I will replace the caps again, but i am worried about something i see on the rear side of the board. It looks to me like...
