  • Re: Dell E171FP No power

I too thought I had a power supply problem, but the real problem was on the image board. I compared a working power supply output and found the two 12 volt rails were showing 15.9 volts. When I swapped the image boards the panel would not light up. The problem was a bad cap on the image board at C163 a 47uf 6.3v 6mmx6mm. It was reading 2.48v on the good image board, but only 1.52v on the bad one. When I pulled the cap it registered 38uf, so I replaced it and now my panel lights up....

Well it looks like I may have read the diagram correctly, but the panel still would not work until I swapped a known good ICE2AS01 (IC901) on the power board. I guess I get to order those too. Thanks....

I came across another 1800FP without power. I was about to order an ICE2AS01 (IC901), but did not find the pin 6 and 7 shorted. When I tested those pins with the mains on it only read 4.5VDC. This is not enough to drive this IC, I believe it needs upwards of 8.5VDC. It looks like I too have a diode and a couple of resistors that have failed. Parts are on order. I really enjoyed having a block diagram and a parts lists. Now to see if I read it correctly!...

  • Re: LG L1942T Vertical Lines that Mostly Fade Away

I think that will be hard to do. Now that I can see the line pattern is consistent it makes me doubt that the problem is with the IC chip that creates the image. Could I have some weak smd caps on the image card or the tabs that control the vertical and horizontal lines. I have never tried to test these kinds of devices, except a smd fuse....

Well after leaving it on all night the pattern of vertical lines have now stabilized when I turn it on and off. Now the vertical lines appear in the same columns and with the same colors every time that I cycle the power on the panel....

It has been on for six hours today and still reacts the same. Since it sends a different pattern of lines after each shut off, it makes me think it is an image card problem. I am using a VGA input now, I do not have a digital input setup. Any guesses about whether a digital input would make any difference?...

No, it does not make a difference, but the metal case is very stiff and I do not think that the pencil erase is stiff enough to make a difference. It does make a ripple on the surface as you would expect.

I noticed that it takes 30 seconds to come to normal colors regardless of if the panel is warm. It always begins to fix itself from the top down in a gradual wave down the screen. It is like the tide coming in from the top nice and gradual.

The other observation is that when I turn...

I replaced the caps on the image board and all but two very little ones on the IPS. But nothing has changed. The vertical lines slowly turn on to their proper color from the top down, so the image is readable. I have also reseated the ribbon cables from the image card to the tab connector that controls the rows and columns. Nothing seems to make a difference.

Any clues on what is causing this?...

  • Re: Broken Dell 1800FP Power Supply - when and when not to resolder?

I have left the panel on for an hour at at time and the noise that was bothering me seems to have lessened and maybe it is just normal for this panel. I am going to take my chances and leave this on for a day and see how it goes.

Thanks for the link. My 1800PF has a slightly different power supply problem. It would not turn on the green power light or light up the lamps, but it would make a clicking sound. I looked that up in the forum and found this link of PlainBill's:

Thanks. I have all three of those.

Suggestions on where is a good source of CCFL lamps and accessories. I saw a link in the last few days, but can't find it now....

Then does this still appear to possibly be a cap problem? I could order caps to replace the rest of the board if this symptom seems consistent with a capacitor that is not coming up to normal operating function until it is on for a while and once it is shut off it must start the process over again....

What lubrication do you suggest and is that to get the end caps off/on or both? I think I can come up with some synthetic grease that is dielectric and good up tp 450 degrees....

  • Re: Dell 1905FP Powers on then black

Well I finally realized that I have a good IPS in a working panel, but have been testing this broken panel with ccfl lamps from a very different panel. This broken panel has four lamps, but I was testing it using a panel that had six lamps. Now that I see how the lamps are wired, I realize that what I thought was a known good set of lamps may have some problems of its own.

I swapped the IPS with the known good IPS and it also sizzled, so now I can say for certain that the problem is with the lamps or wiring to the lamps.

I replaced the three 470uf 35v sam young caps on the IPS and the one 470uf 16v on the image board. I did not have any 1000uf 16v caps or I would have replaced a few of them.

I also measured the power going to the image board. Power seemed normal on the 5v (5.2v) pins, but the following pins looked odd to me. I thought that the voltage might be different after the panel was on and the colors had adjusted, but it was not. What was odd were the following pins:
These values are with the lamps switched...

Yes my IPS board has 2.2uf 50v and 22uf 50v. I replaced all the caps with like specs and so these are new Panasonics of the same values that were on the original. Your logic seems sound. I have a 1704FP? that I believe to be a good working panel, but I have not used is for any length of time yet. I believe those machines do share the same IPS model, but the panel is closed up for now. Now you make me concerned about doing any burn-in time on the 1704. I hope someone can give us a second opinion on your hypothesis. I find it hard...
