  • Re: ASUS A7V8X-X No Post

    Thanks for the replies.

I think possibly the reason for this failure was that I put a stick of 400MHz RAM in along with the two 333 MHz sticks that were already in there. I had FSB set to 333MHz, and I just noticed in the motherboard manual that DDR400 RAM is not supported at 333MHz (only at 266 and 200).

I was running an Athlon XP 2400+ in it, at 13.5x multiplier, 166 FSB.

    ASUS A7V8X-X No Post

    Hello everyone.

I have an ASUS A7V8X-X motherboard. Last night I left the computer on. When I came back to it it appeared to be in sleep mode but wouldn't reactivate.

I turned it off and then tried to reboot and I had no POST beep, although the green power LED was lit, the drives all span and the CPU fan started up. The monitor remained blank with its LED flashing.

I have tried resetting the CMOS, and replacing the CMOS battery. I have tried reseating the Video Card and RAM, and swapping RAM around the slots. Lastly I tried another CPU and while I...

  • Recapped Antec Truepower 430

I have used this power supply since 2004 (got it new). Recently it refused to start on cold boot - this really got worse when room temperature dropped in winter (Australia). I would have to run memtest or let the computer sit on the dual boot selection screen for a couple of minutes, and it would boot if I then reset.

When I opened it up I found a lot of Fuhjyyus, mostly bulging top and/or bottom. The ESR was as follows:

    4700uF 10V 0.8
    3300uf 10V 1.2
    " " 0.82
    " " 0.96
    3300uF 16V 0.17
    3300uF 16V 0.06...

  • Re: Small capacitor near aux flyback transformer

Thanks very much for the reply. The cap was a Newcon wp, which according to their datasheet is rated for 2000 hours. I think it is probably still acceptable, as I can't see the machine it'll be in being used forever and a day!

  • Small capacitor near aux flyback transformer

I've just recapped a 145w "power man" micro atx supply, model number
    FSP145-50NW.

I replaced two vented YEC 3300uF 10V with two Hitano 2200uF 10V as those were the only parts I had that would fit.

I also replaced a 47uF 35V capacitor next to the auxiliary flyback transformer, which had vented without bulging - I could see a brown mess on top and on adjacent parts. It was completely open circuit.

The nearest part I had was a 33uF 35V which I scavenged from a lexmark printer power supply - I don't live near any shops that sell low...
