Re: Samsung UE55B7000 issues
Yea, I was looking at the tracks at 200x, there is even holes and cracks in them, that's why I thought they were only some kind of print

Re: Samsung UE55B7000 issues
Okay! I discovered yesterday that I was able to do what I wanted to, even though I thought it would be impossible.. i.e. scratching off the top of the ribbons on single pins and manage to solder just to one without creating a short circuit, I didn't think I would even be able to achieve this, but after discovering that the tracks on the ribbons are only a print, and scratching off the plastic also removed the track, ruining it even more..
BUT! I only did this to one ribbon, there are 3 more that need repairing, and I think I can scratch...

Re: Samsung UE55B7000 issues
thanks, I'm just gonna flog it on ebay for 99p and state what I have done and that it will most likely need a new panel, I imagine someone probably has a panel that will fit it so I might still get a bit of money for it, or someone might even be able to revive it with better equipment than a £10 soldering iron!

Re: Samsung UE55B7000 issues
hello, i did the bright light trick and i can safely say those contacts do nothing, the massive worry that just dawned on me now though is that the rails on the actual ribbons are only just a print on the surface, so scratching away the ribbon plastic also removes the railsis that right?

Re: Samsung UE55B7000 issues
Hello everyone, I hope I can revive this topic and someone with knowledge and skill can help me out with the repair..
It turns out that corrosion has damaged some of the pins on the panel's ribbon's and obviously these are irreplaceable, so I thought I might as well have a go at repairing it.
The last picture shows the pins that are damaged, some pins don't connect to anything, 5 pins connect to the surface mounted capacitors (2 of them connect to the same capacitor) and 2 pins seem to transfer through the board, although...

Samsung UE55B7000 issues
Hi everyone,
I acquired this TV because it had water damage, water got spilled down the front of the screen and it caused the whole screen to display a slow moving white image. I took the whole TV apart down to the panel and found the boards that run along the bottom of the screen had a lot of corrosion where the water had been (unfortunately irreplaceable as they are connected to the screen)
Anyway I accidentally blew the Tcon board up playing around with it so ordered a new one without any hope, and suprisingly after I cleaned up the corrosion and fitted the new...

Re: Damaged Motherboard Potential Repair?
Hmm.. I think I just destroyed the motherboard even more somehow. I am not really sure what happened, but I took the CPU out to see what would happen without it, as soon as I plugged the battery in all the lights started to flash really fast, and smoke started to come off the board.. my room now stinks of fried components lol. I am guessing it is no longer repairable.

I have also looked closely all over the board and cant see any broken traces

Re: Damaged Motherboard Potential Repair?
Thank you for your reply, I have tried stripping it down to just the motherboard and still same thing. Is it definitely the symptoms of a short? That it stays on longer if it is unplugged for a while etc.

Damaged Motherboard Potential Repair?
Hi everyone
I have taken on a task to fix my friends laptop. It was dropped and suffered some bad damage to the screen and I accepted the challenge as I said it shouldn't be hard to source a screen relatively cheaply and fit it for him, however after looking at it I am fairly sure the motherboard is also damaged.
It is an Acer 5742 and is showing some pretty weird symptoms. It turns on for about 3 seconds, fan spins, blue lights show (no flashing - just on) and then it turns off again, so I just assumed the motherboard was dead as this is usually a pretty big sign....

Re: Samsung LE40A536 - constantly restarting
That is a very strange fault, I have done a few 40" TV's that have had cap problems, and after replacing them, if they still dont work, resetting by shorting out the EEPROM pins fixes it, if not, a new EEPROM does. (Strangely only the R88 models have required a new eeprom in my experience) I have never had to go further than replacing the EEPROM, but I have also never had that problem with restarting after 15 seconds. It seems to long to be a safety device tripping too.
If you disconnect the LVDS does it still do that?...

Re: Laptop Damaged USB Port - Missing Component
Yea, I suspect you do know what you are talking about. It is very strange though because there is only 1 ribbon cable connecting to that board from the motherboard, i had the board in and out several times when the sound wasn't working and it was always the same thing, there was voltage to the speakers, but no sound, and no 5V to the USB, as soon as i fixed that component in the sound came back and i was getting 5V on that rail (although the pin was broken).. I don't know, it is logical what you are saying, maybe it...

Re: Laptop Damaged USB Port - Missing Component
Thank you for all your responses!
PCBONEZ: Yes there is more components underneath the board
Evil_Lurker: Thanks, so do you think the component I replaced is doing its job then? I just finished repairing the part, just created a connection between the pin and a component on that rail.
I just did successfully did the ultimate test of playing music through my laptop speakers from an external hard drive connected through that USB port, worked like a charm.
