Re: Unlock asus for free
had an Asus M51V with bios password.
to reset it, remove the battery and boot it with just the AC power.
when it says NVRAM check, unplug AC power.
it will reset the non volatile memory in the bios.
put battery back in, plug AC back and the password will be gone!

Re: Lenovo G460. auto off...
I had this exact problem on Lenovo G550 and found that it was caused by shorted power pins on a damaged usb port.
I removed the usb port and the laptop worked fine.

Re: Toshiba Satellite A300 freezes nec toking
I've done a number of these and the best tool I've found to remove the old Nec Tokin cap is a good nail clipper! it can grab at the bottom layer and rip it up quite easily. When you get used to it, it's very quick and you won't even need a blade to clean it up before soldering. I always scrape it a bit with the end of a small flat blade screwdriver before soldering the new caps in.
You get a lot of leverage power, precision and control with the nail clipper.

Re: New Members - please post your introductions here
Hello, I'm a noob.
I'm the world's greatest backyard mechanic and because of this I believe I can fix anything!
I have not one but TWO soldering irons! One of them runs off 12V so I can solder using a car battery. Yes, I am sick bro! LOL
Found this forum while trying to fix a Toshiba A300 Laptop with power supply problems.
Had to register to look at pics, and making my virgin post to have full access.
Not completely new to fixing bad caps but I am a total hack with electronics.
Love this forum...
