It is a pain to remove. I have the same issue on my set.
Here is how you can also test. I used a multimeter in Diode mode as it uses 3 volts to test. I only found one LED that was bad. The other tested good but it would not be a bad idea to replace the whole strip. So far I at least diagnosed and the next step is to look at individual LEDs and or strips.

Wow not much help you have been getting on this...People seem to not want to help the newmbs much...we all start somewhere no?
This tv is a plasma. A common issue with these sets are Ysus or Zsus boards.
Maybe even the buffer boards went out also. Start by measuring standby voltages,check fuses,look for burned components and go from there....
