Re: MacBook Pro 2010 15" 820-2850 no charge, green light, powers on
Btw: I cannot see an option to set [Solved] in the thread title.
If there is a way, please let me know.

Re: MacBook Pro 2010 15" 820-2850 no charge, green light, powers on
Well, things changed quite dramatically here.
In the good way.
I have an orange light again!
Got a "parts/wreck" identical mbp with a _working_ battery from a colleague.
Finally I had the possibility to do a sanity check, which would have saved me some time but robbed me from the experience I have gained (More valuable than time itself).
The two Subtel batteries would not charge in the parts machine, at all.
They wouldn't even run on their own without a charger....

Re: MacBook Pro 2010 15" 820-2850 no charge, green light, powers on
Q7030 and Q7035 replaced, both at the same time.
No change.
Still Green LED and fan spin.
Gave it about a minute.
Was really starting to get my hopes high too.
Think I'm going to reassemble it to check where I stand on coconutBattery.
Could this actually be the DC in board?
It is a bit worn in the plastic on the sides of the connector.

According to this video, Q7035 and Q7030 are suspects:

Changing Q7035 in this case solved the No Orange LED issue.
Very similar to my situation.
I've verified the SMC pullup resistors as 2Kohm in circuit (1Kohm in the schematics though), all reaching the ISL.
Since this was in the beginning a very fringe case of "almost" charging (a BAD battery), then none, I believe MOSFets...

Re: MacBook Pro 2010 15" 820-2850 no charge, green light, powers on
Hi again, and Happy new year!
I get green LED and fan spin with no battery.
PPBUS_G3H at F7040 is 12.59 with and without battery attached.
Don't remember it this is normal behaviour, but after replacing the ISL, I first get a normal fan spin, then after ca 10 secs it ramps up.
I'm not a 100% satisfied with my soldering on the ISL as it has a veeeery slight amount of an angle, but I see no bridges and the points do line up.
Worth re-doing, or...

Re: MacBook Pro 2010 15" 820-2850 no charge, green light, powers on
Quick update: No Change
Finally had the courage to do it myself after some dry running on wreck boards.
Preparation with kapton and enough tacky flux was key.
Started with Q7055, no charge, then ISL (the scariest of them all).
Status is the same, but I have not tried booting it yet to see if battery is detected.
It still runs on the battery when I unplug the charger.
Voltages around Q7055 is also identical.
Now what...

That part may take a while.
No hot air at work yet, not to mention training (don’t want to butcher it)
I guess this has come to a halt then, unless there is something else close by that I can check.
Do have hot tweezers at work if needed for caps an resistors.

Then celebrate with at least a bathtub of mjød (mead)!
I believe we have a smoking gun:
Q7055:
Gate 12.57V, which should according to my humble experience be more than enough to turn it on?
Sink 12.64V and Drain 10.92V for completion....

Re: MacBook Pro 2010 15" 820-2850 no charge, green light, powers on
I measured 12.63 on both sides of the F7040 fuse earlier.
Q7055 did have raw battery voltage at drain, yes.
I’ll do a proper measurement of q7055 tomorrow after work.
I must again say thanks a bunch for the knowledge and will to help me out here!

Can verify that the old battery won’t charge either.
Starting to look like a bad ISL?
Not much experience with hot air yet, but have plenty of junk boards to dry run on.
Or could this actually be smc related?
I did after all feel a tingle when installing the first battery.
