• Re: Dell 2407WFPb Monitor - Bad Cap

at my place the Monitor is now standing next to a Dell U2412. And what I can say is: the old 2407 has better colours, yes. But the backlighting is no match to the LEDs of it´s younger brother. It takes ~10-15 minutes til the CCFLs reach the set brightness (50%).
And Ghosting is an issue, too.

everything worked out pretty fine!

I chose the "simple" way and cut the little L702, after the solder refused to melt... And I made a little solder blop to bridge the socket (green arrow). Heres a pic (ignore the orange and yellow arrows):

After plugging in the new, external SPU in the single board nothing happened. Which was a good thing, all attempts before lead to a Tyan standing in a quite dark kitchen

So i plugged the board in, powered it up, lifted the screen (laying...

1000 Thanks, U ROCK!

I´ve just ordered a power brick 20V / 90W. I hope, my last 3 attempts to fix the board didn´t kill something essential....

@AdrianM:
nice Job!
could you make a simple step-by-step workaround for "Dummies"? I´d rather buy an external Dell power supply (DELL PA-6 ~10$ @Amazon) than go on with t&e... I´ve already dumped 70$ in electronic parts (I have 3 NCP1200 here ).

I think, this would be the easiest/best solution for everybody experiencing this little pcb issue :-/

HAHAHA i´m such an idiot

can somebody tell me the specs of TR601? The round, green friend right next to the 4A Fuse? It seems it doesn´t like blue flashes very much. Has a nice, black crater now -.-

edit:
made a pic, see below. Sorry, this time mobile phone pic only.
the green thing reads
SCK
056

*sigh* this time i´ll ask the electric dept. at work if they can help me out with a spare one....

yes, measured on board.

For the R608 & 609 i can´t tell a number, they show some "behavior". They started with ~500k rising, i stopped measuring at ~620k. Above 600k it rose by 3k, declined 2 and rose 3 again... both showed exactly the same behavior.

thats mine, reading
brown black orange yellow

should be 10k ohm, mine has 9,85k...

ummm, it has nearly 0 resistance. But meanwhile i´ve read endors post and had to learn that this doesn´t have to mean it´s dead. It also can be, that there´s a short between the connected parts... so i have to admit: my statement may be wrong....

yep, same here. And the "big" Cap next to it (C620) is also toast.

thanks for that light bulp trick!

i´ve ordered them both via eBay in china. They´re 3,90$ each + 3$ shipping btw. and ~20 days delivery til they´re here in germany...

this is a bit too much for my electronic knowledge :-/ i´ll see if i can get them via eBay, fumble them on my board and then let´s see, if that helps. Should have bought more fuses, only 1 left :-/

referring to the other thread about this problem you think its the IC601 shown in this pic?

this one looks factory new on my board... but nevertheless, if somebody could tell me, where i get one of these NCP1200A60-200A6 i´ll give it a try!

anyway i´ll buy a new monitor ...

ok, now i´ve changed the 120uF cap (to a 150uF 400V 105°), the resistor, the 3502 MOSET (to a P10NK60Z) and the fuse.

After plugging in an switching on (the power board alone) there was a really beautiful blue-white flash and than i sat in the dark (it is nearly 9PM here).

the fuse melted, but the new parts are still ok. So i guess here the real challenge begins...

edit:
i just talked to my...

• Re: Dell 2407WFPb Monitor - Bad Cap

you should find instructions to test the single parts by query google for "check transistor" (e.g.).

what you can do easily with the multimeter on "beep"-setting (makes a beep if theres no/very little resistance in the part. Marked with some kind of speaker symbol):

Transistor
check all possible three combinations of the "foots", if anyone beeps -> broken

Diode
in both ways beep (switch the needles) -> broken

Fuse
no beep ->...

hm, no edit function here...

those 3 little friends next to the 5 condensators aren´t triacs, but double-diodes... and mine are workin... nvm -.-

just fetched my spare parts. Aren´t quite the same specs ("a 2SK 3402!? uuumph, nope, 2 weeks delivery, but i have a substitute!"), but should work. I hope. Pleeeeease!

meanwhile i´ve fetched my multimeter and tested some pieces.

The FETs are all ok but the Q651 is shortened (as expected).

Does anybody know something about these 3 Triacs in my 3rd pic? Their front isn´t labeled...

Hello together!

as a newcomer i first want to thank you all for the great help you gave me with this thread already!
On monday my own 2407WFPb quitted it´s service with a decent bang :-/ My first thought was "power supply" and i´m no person throwing stuff away without trying to fix it...

So i want to show you my attempt, too. Maybe it might help somehow.

The first step today was to open the case and check the internals. Tomorrow i´ll go to the local electronics store and buy...
