Thanks budm. Sounds like I might be better off making a purchase.

245BW Big Cap Replacement
Hi BadCaps members,
I haven't posted in a while, but there havn't been many dead monitors that have come my way lately here in Los Angeles. There is always someone on Craigslist who is trying to sell their dead Sausung monitor for $75 but we all know how that goes. In the meantime, though, I have a Samsung 245BW power board BN44-00173A with a bad big cap (cp803). The cap in question is 82uf 450v, but the spares I have available are a 68uf 450v and a 120uf 400v. Would either of these work in place of the original? If yes, any downside? Thanks as always.Last edited by LAS; 04-30-2016, 08:32 PM.

Re: Samsung 2053BW
Hi bammbammfram,
I see no other way other than an adapter to connect this monitor with a choice of vga and dvi inputs to a Macbook with a mini-DVI port. Maybe an official Apple adapter is a better idea?

Samsung 2053BW
Hi Badcaps readers,
A couple of years ago, I put some new capacitors in a Samsung 2053BW monitor, and after it was up and running, I gave it to a friend who lives in Dubai.
Yesterday, something happened and the display now looks as shown in the attached photo. Does anyone recognize this symptom?
It is hard for me to troubleshoot as I am in the US and the monitor is in Dubai, but this is what I know: the monitor is connected to a circa 2008 Macbook via an eBay purchased (from China) mini-DVI output and transforms it into DVI. An eBay link for a similar...Last edited by LAS; 05-09-2014, 11:41 AM. Reason: Provided more info on the mini-DVI to DVI adapter.

Re: Samsung 245BW or 2493HM?
An update...I was successful in getting both my 245BW and my 2493HM monitors up and running. In both cases, the power board was filled with bad caps and old glue. Glue was removed, and caps were changed. I also took out the 195A power board and replaced it with a 173A board from yet a third monitor that I bought cheaply with a broken panel.
I also took budm's advice and changed the .018 caps even though the originals were ok.
68 ohm resistors were also changed to the 3W variety. Hopefully these two board shouldn't cause any...

OK, I will proactively replace with your suggestion and I'm thinking it's bound to be better than the toasty original.

Re: Samsung 245BW or 2493HM?
budm, I proactively ordered one of these. Will it do?

Budm, is it best to change that cap proactively? Does it need to be a particular variety of .018uf?

Re: Samsung 245BW or 2493HM?
So far, so good. I have been successful in getting the 2493hm working. I replaced a few caps - and it looks like the biggest problem was with the biggest capacitor. I have attached a photo to show what the big cap looked like. I have never seen one this bad.
Since my test, I have removed the board and now plan on replacing the rest of the caps and also the three resistors up front with 2 watt varieties.
I was also able to source a replacement screen for the 245BW, so I have high hopes of getting that one going again t...

Re: Samsung 245BW or 2493HM?
That makes good sense Retiredcaps. I think I'll put the good video board onto the 2493HM first and see what that gets me. If nothing, then I'll put the good panel onto the 245BW.
And once I get a working combination, I'll get to work on the power board. I will take off all the glue, change the undersized resistors, and change out the caps to a better brand. After all, who wants to open it up again???
My goal is to make them as reliable as possible the first time because I may not get the opportunity to repair it again. For...

Re: Samsung 245BW or 2493HM?
Hi Newbie,
That would be an easy thing to try first.
I'm thinking that if it doesn't work, then I'll move the panel over to the 245bw.

Samsung 245BW or 2493HM?
Hi BadCaps list members,
I find myself back in the broken monitor game after several months of nothing to fix. This time around, it appears I have a couple of options, and wanted to hear list wisdom on what to do.
Previously I purchased a Samsung 2493HM which would not come on. I was unsuccessful in troubleshooting the problem. I suspect either the power board or possibly the logic board or both. The panel looks to be in good shape.
Just last night, I became the proud owner of a Samsung 245BW which looks to have taken a direct hit, and as a result...

Re: Broken Samsung 2493HM - blinking LED
Part of the challenge for me is finding the corresponding parts on the board. Usually it takes me ten minutes or so, but this time I found it quickly. A minor victory and means I'm getting better at this game.
Fusible resistor R01 has 1.2 ohms - as retiredcaps pointed out in a prior post, essentially the reisistance of the probes.
And the corresponding diode DB804 also checks out ok.
Thanks budm for your continued interest in what has become a particularly troublesome power board.

Re: Broken Samsung 2493HM - blinking LED
Hi Budm,
Just a brief update that I have not given up on this monitor yet but in the meantime have been swamped with tax deadlines, trade shows and entertaining my 6 and 8 year old boys who have no plans to give me the peace and quiet required to troubleshoot this. But today I prevailed.
I was able to read 6k ohms between pins 6 and 8 on the ic on the back side of the board. And when powered up with no other boards attached and with the jumper installed on the standby pin and PSON, I get 4.5v on the standby...

Re: Broken Samsung 2493HM - blinking LED
I'm thinking that my best plan of action at this point it to put it all back together and wait until a Samsung 245bw comes my way with a bn44-00173a board in it. Then I will be able to get a better picture of what's going on with this one. If it's just the power board, I have no issues buying a new board to replace the broken one - I am reluctant though to do this with the possibility of two bad boards.

Re: Broken Samsung 2493HM - blinking LED
The diode cannot be checked using a diode function on a multimeter? Maybe I can find a replacement on another board. Or I can get one next time I place an order.

Re: Broken Samsung 2493HM - blinking LED
First of all, newbie1's long shot: I removed transformer TM801 and indeed there was some glue on the legs. I scraped it clean. Readings on each side had two legs with continuity. Both sides matched.
Euromatlox's suggestions: I reviewed the link and tested the componenents listed. I found nothing out of the ordinary.
And now ICP801S. Before the morning coffee and armed with nerves of steel, I powered up the board and measured the voltage on all eight pins with respect to the ground on the negative side of the...

Re: Broken Samsung 2493HM - blinking LED
A quick question about ICP801S...mine has no marking on it whatsoever. Is the ground pin on the top row, second from the right? I'm thinking of soldering a wire to the ground and then clip onto it to simplify voltage measurements.
My chip looks like it became hot once upon a time.

Re: Broken Samsung 2493HM - blinking LED
Budm, I'm thinking it isn't. I looked no further when I saw that my board has two fuses next to the AC plug and the schematic only shows one.
