Re: Abit NF-M2SV - bad caps or?
I wonder if it is a problem around the southbridge considering you're having problems with ps/2, usb, and hard drives.

Re: Asus ptgd la
Ohms readings should indicate that you have a short/ continuity when there is little or no resistance (so if there is low impedence between gate drain and source, you have a short). Some multimeters also have a separate continuity option; the symbol on the dial looks like a diode and the meter beeps when the probes are in a closed circuit.
In my case I noticed a short between 12v and ground on the 4pin by the cpu. From there I probed at random untill I found that the transistor closest to the power input had continuity between every contact, power, and ...Last edited by JAnderson; 10-07-2011, 02:35 PM.

Re: Asus ptgd la
IT'S ALIVE! Thank you all for lending me your time and expertise. I was kind of worried because I pulled a trace a little bit when desoldering the mosfet, but it seems everything is working okay.

Re: Asus ptgd la
I took the piece out and the atx 12v seems normal now. The IDs are 13N03LA and GAL504. The first code links to an infineon series of mosfets, but I am not sure what the second code is. This one seems close http://goo.gl/il6o3
Also, I realized that I haven't explained how the fault occured. I was changing the resolution (on-board intel 915gv) when the computer crashed and tried to reboot. The fans shut down and only the power led came on at first, then there were no signs of power after a manualy attempted restart.
Normally the...

Cool. Any advice on other points of failure I can test?

Re: Asus ptgd la
I replaced the KZGs last night but the board is still not powering up (the cpu fan twitches a little and the monitor turns on and goes into sleep mode). At this point I am guessing there is something else wrong with the VRM, but I don't really know how to troubleshoot it. Pobing around with the multi meter is showing only 4.6ohms between the +12v and ground on the 4pin. Also, one of the mosfets is showing all three pins are connected to ground. I asume these are abnormal readings?

Asus ptgd la
Howdy
I have an asus ptgd-la that has died recently.
The caps that failed are KZG's by the vrm and memory (2x 1500uF 6.3v and 3x 1000uF 16v, both 8mmx20mm). I am interested in knowing what would be good replacements and if any of the following caps on the board should be replaced as well.
13x MBZ and 2x HM- 820uF 6.3v 8x12
2x Fujitsu- 680uF 6.3v 10x12 (not sure of the model; black on yellow with 'M 5352U' and deep K vent)
11x ? 680uF 4v 8x8. These are at vcore; gold on black, no vent, with '530Hb' printed on and the letter M in a box.
2x YXG- 470uF...
