Re: Alienware 15 R3 Motherboard Issues Help Plz!
I was thinking that could be an issue, I ordered some fresh braid/wick when it comes I'll fix it. In the meantime I'm so happy to report that the battery is charging and the computer seems to be 100% again! =D So I can't tell you all how much I appreciate your guidance, your all just so freakin awesome!! Thank you!!...

Re: Alienware 15 R3 Motherboard Issues Help Plz!
I got the first one replaced, but it doesn't look like it's lined up as perfectly as it was, should I worry about it it just move on? The S-G is still not shorted and the D-GND isn't shorted, I assume that would mean it's okay? Thx!...

I pulled one from the donor board from location pq707.. It tests 14M Ohms S - G..Last edited by z32KRAzY; 08-15-2022, 09:11 PM.

Re: Alienware 15 R3 Motherboard Issues Help Plz!
Alright I pulled pq707, it tested good, so I pulled pq701 next and it tests 3-60 Ohms between source and gate.. And the remaining mosfet (pq708) tests 255K Ohms source to gate. So how difficult are these going to be to solder back if I don't have any paste solder?Last edited by z32KRAzY; 08-15-2022, 08:36 PM.

Okay thanks for that, it helps to know I'm following.. As luck has it, I have my original (same) motherboard still, I was thinking I would just borrow one from that board if there's no reason I shouldn't? I'm just getting everything prepped again to pull another. Will post when I get a bad one off.

Re: Alienware 15 R3 Motherboard Issues Help Plz!
Just to make sure I'm understanding, once I get the bad mosfet out the remaining ones will test high Ohms S-G in circuit? Thanks again! Sorry for all the questions, I just want to understand what I'm doing as much as possible..
And I took your advice and drew a simple diagram of the area and the pin 1 location. Lesson learned.Last edited by z32KRAzY; 08-15-2022, 05:00 PM.

Re: Alienware 15 R3 Motherboard Issues Help Plz!
This is what both the bottom ones are, maybe I'm not finding the right datasheet or something.. That's pq701 and pq708.
And yeah I see the tiny dimple now that marks pin 1.. That's annoying lol, I was looking for anything else like that I guess I just missed it. My eyes certainly aren't what they used to be....Last edited by z32KRAzY; 08-15-2022, 04:18 PM.

Re: Alienware 15 R3 Motherboard Issues Help Plz!
Okay I think I understand. One other thing, I just noticed the two mosfets on the bottom of the board are different than the top ones, they seem to be dual mosfets, each has 2x D1, 2x D2, 2x S1, 2xS2, 2x G1, 2x G2.. These are the ones in the picture from my last post. This is a picture of the ones on the top side. By top side I mean the side with the cpu and gpu.....

Re: Alienware 15 R3 Motherboard Issues Help Plz!
Okay so this is a little bit frustrating.. The mosfets are marked with a circle on one side which I took as the indication that that was the side with pin 1. After removing the first mosfet looking at the bottom I can see that pin 1-4 are connected on the bottom side of the chip, so I don't know what's going on, it appears the chip is marked reversed. The mosfet isn't the same chip that the schematic showed being used for the mosfets but I looked at it's datasheet and it says the pinout is the same as the one the schematic shows but...Last edited by z32KRAzY; 08-15-2022, 03:11 PM.

Re: Alienware 15 R3 Motherboard Issues Help Plz!
Should I not remove the MOSFET(s) then? I'll have to do it a little either way but I found all my equipment that I need I think.. It's been so long since I have used this stuff, anyone have any pointers to save me having to read up on how to do this stuff again? I just don't recall the preheat temps, the air nozzle temp and I'm wondering if I have to remove the plastic ac-in connector beside it or can I just shield it with some foil tape? Thanks!!
